If the employers have a genuine reason to believe that the workplace rules are being violated, U.S Supreme Court' verdict let the employers to search through text messages sent by workers.
This rule has allowed employers to go through the employee's general computer, Internet and e-mail. Since most of the MNCs in India are US centric, there is a high chance that very soon, these kind of rules will come to India as well.
This law has helped employers to keep a track of their employee's activities in the office time. I agree that this must not be made to apply to private mobile communication devices owned by any person regardless of where that device may be used.
But many a times employees misuse even their official telephonic systems for personal use. This law will help in preventing those cases.
