Who Decides What is "News" and What is Not?

Who decides who is media and who is not? Who decides when media is really news media, worthy of inclusion or being excluded?

"Any source that claims to be media:" a news source, is obviously an answered filled with tar baby implications... as I will soon point out. (No race inference intended.)

Popularity?

The Sun, the gossip rag you see at check out, is quite popular. Rush is quite popular. Thom Hartmann and Ed Schultz might argue they are popular. Various churches of all kinds: include whatever "cults" you may not like, have "media." With sometimes millions or billions of followers, popular certainly applies.

As an editor you consider running stories; stories brought to you by your reporters or correspondents; press releases put out by government, interest groups, etc; diary events; and general issues which may not have a story 'peg' but may also be worth covering. You look at them and decide how important, interesting and/or relevant they are to your audience. If you work in the commercial sector then you may also have to consider advertisers.

FOX News is not a credible news organization by any standard. As if by force of habit, they take information and pervert itknowingly. That being said, Obama would be just as right to shut out MSNBC or CNN, for the same reason that anyone else would shut them out. For the most part, it is infotainment crap. I have a greater reason for saying this: I oppose Obama's new policies, because I oppose his very position of power. On top of that, press conferences are mostly stupid. They're just a way for politicians to spread their nonsense propaganda and dodge any important questions and concerns.
And, what do you know, that's also what FOX News does! Oppose them both. As the saying goes, "Hate is not a family value."
