Where the teaching Career will take you?

Regarding the question where a teaching career will take a person – it all depends on the qualification of the individuals. In India, the degree related to the teaching should be taken from a recognized university or college within the country. There are different sections in teaching namely- primary/high school, higher secondary schools etc. It all depends on ones interest and level of qualification that one would reach a certain position.

An individual can engage in pre primary teaching by taking the NIT course which is conducted by various vocational training centers and poly technical colleges. The minimum eligibility for adopting this level of teaching is 12th class or intermediate studies. A primary level teacher should have completed the diploma or bachelor in education. The candidates having a home science degree can also apply for the primary level teacher’s job.

The candidates who have pursued their graduation in any discipline from any university or a college which is recognized can become a teacher only after having a B.Ed degree. Those are called TGT (Trained Graduate Teachers) who can teach in the senior secondary level. There are PGT (Post graduate Teachers) who can teach up at higher levels in different schools. Such candidate should take the M.Ed degree after post graduation for getting in to teaching jobs.

A good academic record is essential for a candidate to pursue teaching as a job in higher universities and colleges. The candidate should have at least a 55% of marks in the subject in which they are specialized in at the master’s level. By attending the NET (National Eligibility test) conducted by the UGC/CSIR etc. Those who pass in NET will be eligible to apply for the position of Lecturers in university or college level. The benefits associated in this area are immense.

The job prospect of teaching as a career is very significant. The candidates who get engage in this area have flexible timings in this job. Moreover the numbers of opportunities are high especially in various governments as well private schools and colleges. The pay package is also fairly high particularly in case of UGC scale teachers.

The role of teachers in any society cannot be ignored as the whole culture and value system of the people depends on that link only. In India, many steps are being taken to improve the level of education in the rural areas. The education sector is expanding and in various levels as a result of which the need for more professionally qualified and skilled teachers is increasing. Hence the government has built in more steps to generate more number of people in this profession.

The number of schools and colleges are increasing both in public and private sectors. Hence the demand for qualified teachers is also there. Faculties are a requirement in all the areas. As a part of the development initiatives, the government has introduced the concept of virtual classrooms in schools and colleges. The role of IT in teaching is a significant one. The burden of teachers in this area has been reduced with the introduction of Computers which help in various teaching techniques. Hence adequate training should be imparted to the teaching staff to effectively do their work.
