I just got reminded about the rail budget a few mins back and checked on some news sites.

This link in particular amused me Trinamool Congress opposes own Railway Budget, Dinesh Trivedi may quit - Business - Budget 2012 - ibnlive

The title "Trinamool Congress opposes own Railway Budget, Dinesh Trivedi may quit" was quite candid.

Whats up with the rail budget guys? I am reading news of inter party politics but hardly anything substantial on the budget front.

Anyone in here who has studied the budget (not the politics around it) and can sum it up? :tea:

Is it good? Bad? Ugly ?

Main Highlights of Railway Budget 2012-13 presented today:-

Marginal Fare hike proposed. First since 2003.

2 paise per km hike for 2nd class suburban trains.

Platform ticket hiked to Rs 5. It earlier cost Rs 3.

Hike of 10 paise per km for 3 Tier AC passengers.

Sleeper class passengers to pay 5 paise more per km.

First AC fare hiked by 20 paise per km.

2 Tier AC passengers to pay 15 paise more per km.

3 paisa per km more for mail and express trains.

Separate trains to run for wait-listed passengers.

Tickets will be sold at post offices also.

12 car trains to run for Navi Mumbai.

1500 new coaches for Mumbai local trains.

I think this step is in the right direction

Rail Budget has been quite fair with the current economic scenario. The execution still remains the worrying part of it. Apart from that planning wise and policy making wise its good rather i would say a level above good.
