Subway recently said that they will have more locations than McDonald’s by the end of this year. Subway currently has 31,771 shops worldwide, but plans to open up several hundred more and surpass McDonald’s record of 32,158 restaurants. Subway already owns the record at home, beating out McDonald's for most U.S. locations since 2002. They now have more than 22,000 locations in America. There are 1,500 stores in Wal-Mart locations alone, according to Subway’s public relations office. McDonald’s has entered into more world markets, but in recent years, the burger giant has focused on making its existing locations more profitable rather than opening new ones. The burger chain reported $24 billion in revenue last year. "We remain focused on listening to and serving our customers, and are committed to being better, not just bigger," a McDonald's spokeswoman says. Subway is entirely franchisee-owned. Subway generated roughly $15.2 billion, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.

When conducted a survey as regards who’s the best or preferable by people few of the comments are as follows:
I am not surprised that Subway beat out McDonald's. People are getting more educated on the health issues and true nature with McDonald's food. I prefer Subway a lot better than McDonald's. It is a lot better tasting and definitely healthier. You might not get a much for your buck at Subway, but the fact that the food just tastes better and does not make you feel like crap after eating it makes up for the extra dollar you pay. I think Jerry really helped Subway's popularity too as well as The Biggest Loser where the emphasize that Subway is the best fast food choice. [/i][/i]
Another people commented: Subway is bigger but McDonalds has better business than subway. Yeah subway might have more stores nationwide, McDonalds gets more business daily I think. I and my boyfriend get salads from McDonalds often and we just had subs for dinner.[/i]
McDonald's is good for exactly one thing: very, very fast food. If I can walk in there, order something, slap money down, and be walking out with food within 60 seconds, the operation has not been a waste of my life. The food isn't good, but it can at least be fast. Subway is never going to be fast. If the lettuce is reasonably fresh, and the rolls toasted to give them at least a little character, it can actually be food. You can get real vegetables at a Subway, and the stringy, limp lettuce on a Big Mac doesn't even come close to counting. You can get a salad at McDonald's, but it's actually rather expensive as such things go and would seem to be missing the point entirely. I'm not vegetarian, and I'm grateful to be able to snag roast beef or turkey or steak or whatever else catches my eye today. But vegetables make it seem a lot more like I'm actually eating food and not just cramming junk into my body. Subway is about the only place I can go to get actual vegetables at a reasonably fast clip.
Taking into consideration all of the above views and opinions one can say that in terms of popularity McDonalds is popular and in terms of preference people prefer subway but since McDonald is fast and quick people opt McDonald.
