What is wrong with child labor?

What is wrong with child labour - the very concept of labour by a child, who should be in school, learning , rather than doing the menial jobs. It does stop the complete grown of a child - the time when he/she should have been spending in learning is getting wasted in doing a job which a grown up individual can do. The time when he should have been thinking freely, getting creative ideas in his / her mind is getting ruined in thinking how the next mean will come.

I think its wrong to support child labour, but in country like India where most of the population are not well developed or say below poverty line & if in a family there is only one boy & whose age is 13& suppose now that boy's father is no more & her mother is not in condition to work or if even she can work then to she cannot earn such amt. in which both can survive, for a single person i would atleast say single day expense on food is 100 that is 3000 a month so now ppl can think how much its really tough. Ppl just say abolish child labour are they really ready to adopt the family , even the govt. does not provide better facility, forget abt good i'm saying better.

Child labour is not offensive... but its termed "offensive" only under conditions when the child is deprived of the facility to gain the basic education or knowledge which is required for every human to do a better survival... Even there are children who do so many activities, like helping their father in the kirana shops after schools, helping their brothers in the small lathes, etc etc, ut the factor is they are able to continue their education. So, the policies against child labour is to make sure that every child gets the basic RIGHT OF EDUCATION.

well a vey one sided topic u all may feel but tell me 1 thing this child even if are given free education they donot study they just roamaround and do wat we call mawaligiri so y not get them employed and earn money for them and there family if they have

Children have a physical structure that is not meant to do hard menial labour... But due to family financial issues they have to undergo this pain in beedi, textile, etc. factories and hotels to give their family a morsel of food..

But this has to end.. children should be educated and parents should see to it that the child is made to go to school rather than make to do work to earn for the family...

well ankit indeed u picked up a very interesting topic... but i would rather beg to differ!!! i wont say child labour is wrong, but then again opnions differ from person to person.... speaking from personal experience...
last summer, i had to work for an NGO, more lyk with the less privileged kids... and there was somethin i never seen before... we basically had to keep them busy by teaching them to speak in english, or to learn to read and write.... the kids mostly were all in primary school.... and each one had their own set of interests... mostly most of them wanted to do anything as long as it didnt have anythin to do with books... but there was this one guy who always wanted to learn more and more and more!!!!!! he would always ask us to give him home work, and then the next day he would ask us to give him tests... i was very suprised with his behaviour because he was the only one boy who avtually wanted to study... one day i sat with him to ask him why exactly was he so interested in studying, while all what the others wanted to do was play and have fun... this is what he tells me- "all my life i have seen my mum and dad live in utter poverty, when my younger sister wanted something, sometimes my father could not afford it... so i want to study so much, that when i grow up i become a doctor, and then i will have enough money to buy my children whatever they want...they will not have to see days like the ones i have lived..."
there is a small village boy with real big dreams... if child labor is allowed, dreams as his, will always remain a dream, and these kids will never have to chance to make their dreams come true....
n honestly i think everyone, whether big or small, deserves that one chance!!!!

Poverty and social inequality are the root causes of child labour. If there is no interference in the child's education and growth, working at home may benefit children educationally and socially, making them more responsible. They develop self-confidence and respect in their communities, often contributing to their own cultural and social development, along with their communities. Families, employers, exporters, everyone has a vested interest in letting the practice continue. Poor families look upon these children as a means of earning money.children work for long hours and in hazardous conditions and are not even paid the minimum wage. The employer manages to exploit them, as they do not have a powerful lobby backing them and there is no one to demand justice for them. Children are not paid while they are on training. What is worse, a child, who has been employed through a contractor, is forced to pay as much as 25% of his abysmal earnings to the contractor.

What is wrong with child labor?.......................gud question................quite concerning though.............................it is as wrong as saying earth is at top and sky is at bottom

Well there is nothing wrong in generating a living is they think they need to support their family... if they don't work. they end up like slum kids who are good for nothing..so they learn to snatch and steal...but yeahh.. the work should not turn into exploitation!!

Well Ankit, you are viewing the glass as half-empty,I wud say.Providing education provides complete cure for most of the prblms.Other measures mite be like pain killers.Providing free education means also checking the attendance rate for a particular school and taking proper action if the standards are not met.It doesn't end with that.Think about the noon meal scheme available in TN.This has increased the no.of enrollments in schools.Atleast ppl are sending their children to school so that they can have atleast 1 sq meal/day.This is indirectly making a child to come to school. All good habits are hard to come and hard to go.This good habit of coming to school is hard to come and we need to take steps like noon meal scheme to make it a success.Once the habit is set and it is going to reap benefits, this habit will be hard to go.In intial phases this will take lot of efforts and pains to inculcate this habit.Even some measures like Free electricity for certain duration can be given to homes where children are studying. But India is currently facing severe power shortage. So we need to wait for some yrs for this to happen.Even some concessions can be given in the Ration shops for ppl those who send their children to schools.
