What is Capability Maturity Model (CMM)?

Hi, Looking for Concept of Capability Maturity Model (CMM)

Here are the Definition with Concept of Capability Maturity Model (CMM):

1) The Capability Maturity Model (CMM) is a development model created after study of data collected from organizations that contracted with the U.S. Department of Defense, who funded the research. This model became the foundation from which Carnegie Mellon created the Software Engineering Institute (SEI). The term "maturity" relates to the degree of formality and optimization of processes, from ad hoc practices, to formally defined steps, to managed result metrics, to active optimization of the processes.

The Capability Maturity Model was originally developed as a tool for objectively assessing the ability of government contractors' processes to perform a contracted software project.

2) Capability Maturity Model (CMM) is a process development model that shows the degree of maturity of processes in an organization. It moves through five stages i.e. ad-hoc/initial, managed, defined, quantitatively managed and optimized.

I hope this will Help you. Thank you

The CMM allows you to "linearly" assess the maturity of a specific Capability or Function. In other words, it allows you to give it a Maturity Score that can be equal to 1 - 5, where 1 is its lowest score and 5 is its highest score.
