US stocks dipped on Monday, retreating from last week’s record levels as investors hesitated to make big bets before the start of earnings season

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 44.05 points or 0.26 percent, to end at 17,024.21. The S&P 500 declined 7.79 points or 0.39 percent, to 1,977.65. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 34.40 points or 0.77 percent, to 4,451.53.
 
US stocks fell in a broad selloff on Tuesday, dropping for a second straight session and driving the Dow below 17,000 as investors turned cautious before the start of earnings season.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 117.59 points or 0.69 percent, to 16,906.62. The S&P 500 slid 13.94 points or 0.70 percent, to 1,963.71. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 60.07 points or 1.35 percent, to 4,391.46.
 
US stocks finished higher on Wednesday, rebounding from a sharp two-day selloff, after minutes from the last Federal Reserve meeting showed policymakers have started to detail how the central bank will end its easy monetary policy.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 78.99 points or 0.47 percent, to 16,985.61. The S&P 500 gained 9.12 points or 0.46 percent, to 1,972.83. The Nasdaq Composite added 27.57 points or 0.63 percent, to 4,419.03.
 
US stocks dropped on Thursday as concerns about the financial health of Portugal%u2019s top listed bank gave investors a reason to cash in recent gains.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 70.54 points or 0.42 percent, to 16,915.07. The S&P 500 slid 8.15 points or 0.41 percent, to 1,964.68. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 22.83 points or 0.52 percent, to 4,396.20.
 
US stocks managed to score modest gains on Friday, but the S&P 500 posted its biggest weekly drop since April as investors showed only mild enthusiasm after getting their first glimpses of earnings.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 28.74 points or 0.17 percent, to end at 16,943.81. The S&P 500 gained 2.89 points or 0.15 percent, to 1,967.57. The Nasdaq Composite added 19.29 points or 0.44 percent, to 4,415.49.
