INTRODUCTION

Electrical load on power system varies and it never be constant. To economically meet the requirement of variable load and to assure continuous supply the number of generator unit connected to the system bus bar are varied suitably. The synchronization requires fulfillment of various conditions like

(1) Same phase sequence
(2) Equality of frequency and voltage between incoming machine and bus.

At present the synchronization is done manually by using conventional analog instruments

EXISTING METHODS OF SYNCHRONISATION

(1) Synchronization using lamp

(2) Using synchronoscope

(3) Automatic synchronization

CRIETERIA OF DESIGN

The auto synchronizer has been developed to carry out the following tasks related to synchronization such as

1. To check if the phase sequence of the incoming machine is correct or otherwise, in case of wrong phase sequence, terminate the further steps in the process and also to indicate the corrective action.
2. To check the frequency of the incoming machine is equal to that of busbar and to adjust it to a value nearly equal to the busbar frequency.
3. To check if machine voltage is equal to that of busbar and adjust it to a value nearly equal to the busbar voltage.
4. After ascertaining the fulfillment of all these condition, to give closing signal to the circuit breaker so that the circuit breaker will close at the exact inphase instant.

HARDWARE DETIALS

(1) Frequency controlling unit
(2) Voltage controlling unit
(3) Potential transformer unit
(4) Signal conditioning card
(5) Display card
(6) Circuit breaker with switching circuit

CONCLUTION

The microprocessor based system of automatic synchronizer can be used more effectively compared to conventional methods of synchronization such as dark lamp method, bright lamp method and synchronization using synchronoscope this because of the fact that the conventional, method calls for of the operator and accuracy is less and it depends on the sense of correct judgment of the operator. Moreover the microprocessor based alternator synchronizer is user friendly and requires less maintenance. It also exploits the advantage of superior performance of the microprocessor like accuracy speed and reliability.
