THE ULHASNAGAR Municipal Corporation (UMC) is ready with Thursday's demolition plan - the second time this year.
On Friday, Additional Secretary Ramanand Tiwari, officials of Urban Development Department and Ulhasnagar Municipal Commissioner Sadashivrao Kamble decided on the demolition after a meeting.
'We have given enough time to the families residing in 855 unauthorized buildings by forming a special law to regularise their buildings," Said Kamble. Only 223 building residents applied under the law to regularise their buildings. A total of 47 buildings were regularised under the new law."
The UMC will start the demolition drive from Thursday. It will spare only those buildings whose residents had applied for regularisation or which had been regularised under new law by the expert committee.
According to records, NeelKamal Apartment at Gol Maidan is on the top of the list. " We'll first demolish this building," Kamble said.
"We did not want to disturb the New Year's celebrations, so we decided to begin demolition from Thursday," he said, adding that they have already informed the police and electricity department about it.
Neelkamal Apartment is a three-storey building having nine flats and five shops. "Our building was constructed in 1982. We purchased the adjacent plot in 1995 and extended our construction," said Narayan Khemani (62), a resident of the apartment.
He said only two days ago they approached architect Laxam Kataria to prepare a proposal in the official format and apply to the UMC to regularise their building. "But we don't know the status of our application," the resident added.
The Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation had served notices to 1,50,000 constructions to apply for regularisation --- only 15,000 applied and the committee has approved 875 proposals fit for regularisation.
