Two new major ports planned at W Bengal & AP

Kolkata: Aiming to ease the water transportation network, the Indian government will be developing two new major ports respectively at West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh. The port to be developed at Sagar in West Bengal is awarded to RITES involving an estimated capital cost of Rs7820 crore. The Dugarajpatnam Port in Andhra Pradesh is outlined to be of Rs7988 crore. RITES is executing the feasibility study for the proposed loction.

Concessions targeted for the ports at Sagar and Dugarajapatnam were awarded in the financial year 2014-15. During the last fiscal about 32 port projects worth about Rs6765 crore were awarded targeting a capacity addition of 136.75 MT. As per the officially available statistics, till now about five projects involving capacity addition of 48.59 MTPA (worth Rs2045.25 crore). The projects are being initiated under a slew of measures undertaken by the government to modernize the country’s ports sector.
