True Colours of Entertainment – (Electronic Media) – Colors
Introduction:
In the age where you have DTH, Set top boxes, cable tv, more than 300 Channels vie for top slots in our homes.
Entertainment now is available in Multiple genre, language, interests, etc…Gone are the days of our good old Dordarshan.
The category life cycle of media entertainment is at an infant stage today and hence you have new channels mushrooming every day.
Entry of another me too brand and its sudden rise to success & sustain its position is worth a study.
Who, How, What, Why, When, Whom are few questions that come to me when I think about this.
The segment of Hindi General Entertainment Channels (GEC) in India has more than 12 established players, some of them being Star Plus, Zee TV, Sony, etc. These players were finding it difficult to get good TRP’s even after being in this category for a very long time.
That’s when COLORS came and became the No.1 GEC in its 1st year itself. In a very short span of time COLORS managed to get hold of the No.1 position which is a great achievement. Hence, to study its strategies I have selected this topic for my study.
