The Process
Family businesses can enter teams of 2-6
people either from within the business or
a combination of individuals from in and
outside the business. This could include a
business advisor or one of our high achieving
University of Adelaide students.
Teams are required to develop and submit a
business concept proposal in the ?rst round.
Each concept proposal is sent to 3 judges
from the business community for feedback.
Teams are paired with an experienced
mentor from the business community
whose knowledge is invaluable in helping
to construct a business plan to take their
entrepreneurial ideas from a concept to an
executable strategy.
A series of face-to-face workshops,
presented by specialists in their various
?elds, outline the steps to building a
successful business: from developing and
assessing their idea, through to marketing,
?nance, intellectual property, writing the plan
and delivering a presentation. Participants
have access to the eChallenge Blackboard
online materials containing, readings, video
and PowerPoint presentations. There are
up to ten modules covering all aspects of
business planning.
Semi-?nal teams are required to develop and
submit a detailed business plan for their idea
for judging by the expert panel. Successful
teams are then invited to compete in the
?nals. The ?nals judging include an oral
pitch. The judges are looking for innovative
concepts that have an overall commercial
viability for the business based on the quality
of the opportunity, the market, competitive
advantage, and the team’s strengths and
weaknesses.
The Australian eChallenge NextGen winner is
announced at the Final Awards Dinner at the
Adelaide Oval in November.
