The blue represents the number of people who regularly check into Facebook gaming apps like Mafia wars , Farmville , Zynga poker ; among many others. It is substantial because it is 53 % of 500 million users we are talking about here ; not a number to be hopped over.

These Social games are running on par with Facebook on the growth curve and eclipsing the reach of other media-agencies. They have also left the likes of World Of Warcraft & Xbox Live in the dust , which were considered to have crossed many a milestones in this sector.

The reason for their success :

1. These networks provide more virtual wealth / commodities as you use them. The users who have spent more time on the APP , are richer (virtually of course) and hence it starts a stampede of sorts to have more , a virtual Keynes will be laughing his pants out.

2. These APPs have learnt how to optimize their transaction and network effect.

3. The magnitude of their ascension and distributional nodes; creates a barrier hard to jump over for new entrants.

What Zynga (Industry Leader) did to get there :

1. It realized that it will have to seek FIT & UTILITY rather than reach and demodraphics as others previously did.

2. Advertising amounts to only 10 % of their revenue and they watch for only 1-4 % of user monetiztion.

3. They have endorsed social values by Aligning the Audience – something that paid off quite well as every APP has its own indigenous culture and some even have a separate language to boot.
