The Powers Of the President

DRISHYA

Drishya Prabhakaran
What do you people think about the position or the powers held by our indian president? Do you think that our democratic policies allow our first citizen to act upon his decisions firmly or he is merely used as a "rubber stamp" by many corrupt beauraucrat with strong connections and contacts to get things done.

powers of president .....i don't think that the first citizen is having any power laying in his hands ..as when ever a time to take a crucial decision comes, all the parties start to shout and he is always under a pressure to delay decisions as long as possible ...take example of death penalties in recent years whether it is in case of rajiv gandhi or parliament attack ...they r pending and always a political issue every 6 months ....why does the president do some thing abt it ....

he doesnt hav ny real powers... he has to b in d gud books of d rulin party to stay in office... so isnt he a pushovr

Well..itz true tat the president has got limited powers..
But Abdul Kalam and K.R Narayanan redefined the whole concept of Presidency...
tey were bold enough to point out the flaws at the govt

Need a more pro-active president but with sufficient checks & balances
so power is not misused along the line of Pakisatn president Mushraf.

There could have been a constitutional crisis if Giani Zailsingh had
[as rumored] dismissed rajiv gandhi's elected govt.

I think that like the head of armed forces the control of police,ACB etc. must also rest in the hands of president so that they are not under any pressure while working.

If our president really had powers or if u think Abdul kalam made a difference then why was he not able to implement his prospective law about eradicating all illiterate people from politics?
In today's age when we dont even get a peon's job if we do not class 10 we are having ministers who are controlling our country's activities who are much less educated than these peons!!!! Pretty shameful condition
