The great austerity drive

Recently the Finance Minsiter has started this austerity drive and we see many of the leaders and MP follow the great austerity drive by cutting the expenses and saving the public income.

The question is whether this drive should have been brought some time earlier, especially when the inflation was in the negative territory and food prices rising???

Well first of all i would like to congrats our great politicians for this sort of thing.

Now i think its good that they realized the value of money specially their expenses. I am agree with you Rohan this must have come before sometime. But even if this comes right now and its is due to some good reason then its great, i hope there will be no political or personal publicity stunt behind this, its good that our politicians are saving government's funds i will be interesting to see how long this will continue.

But the thing is only the few selected politicians or rather the big players i should say feel the need to save the public money. The rest are still the same. And the media have promoted this by flashing the 'breaking news' ticker every now and then.

I feel its another way of a publicity stunt to gather the support of the people, to show that we are doing something unusual that no one has ever done before.

The austerity drive is simply for gaining the votes. The austerity drive is done at the cost of security. But, it's a welcome move and we've to wait & see how long it will continue. Our politicians should really work on cost reduction and other important security related issues.

Exactly my friend, its a welcome move no doubt. And you are absolutely right that its at the cost of security but i feel it has also increased the chances of more attacks on VIP personalities and terror targets.

I feel the government should reduce the ATF prices for the airlines and a much cheaper ticket can be available to all the people, thus helping the airlines and also the austerity drive.

actually it all comes across as hogwash. the cost of transporting a top-level politico by train involves reserving entire compartments and in economy class flights it will only cause considerable inconvenience to ordinary passengers. the real impact will most likely be minimal. would be a lot more useful if they focussed on curtailing the fiscal deficit through more efficient taxation and less expenditure on subsidies and so-called welfare schemes than these token gestures.
