Tata nano-some nano thougths

can you tell me why commercial uses of NANO should be curtailed. i guess we can use nano as taxi/ cab as apublic mode of transport.

tata nano is one of the innovations which TATA's has made in order to exhibit his VISION for INDIA - globally and its going to make a history in the automobile sector in the next 1 year

I am just now learning many of the details of the development of the Nano and many of its implications for India and other parts of the world. It will be interesting to watch unfold. It will also be interesting to see if Tata Motor can begin to meet is production targets and make this a profitable venture.

Hi,
TATA NANO can't be used as commercial vehicle due to its specs.A car has to be 1000cc to be used as commercial vehicle bt Nano is only 625 cc,way short of it.So Nano can't be used as commercial vehicle.

Nano- it can happen only in India. Yes coz no foreign company hv everthought about launching a car in such less amount and with these excellent feature.

Hi,
Finally,we have the People's car out.Tata's are planning to have financial schemes tailored for them so that they can make profits even during these recession times.I feel ppl are even excited about having a car in their homes. It remembers me about the vision of Bill Gates to have Computer's in every home.Likewise Tata is dreaming to have a Nano in every home. But do we have enough infrastructure to support Nano on our roads.Currently we have 49 lakh 2-wheelers and about 2 lakh four wheelers on-road.With this statistics we have are facing pathetic situation everyday.Adding to this,we are going to have a more cars.So this is going to add fuel to the fire.

What are your solution to overcome this problem?I agree that better infrastructure will be the one but I'm certain that it will not happen soon.so we need think of some other solution. Some of the things coming to my mind

1.Put a cap on the number of vehicles registered.
2.Emulate the China policy of restricting the no.of vehicles on road/day.

Keep adding to this guys.

introduction of nano is really a brave thought of Tata as no one in this world is able to produce such a cheap car. Further this is the most fuel efficient car. so the green house emissions will come down if this car replaces other cars.

it will be great to see everyone driving car in india with nano coming to market.
and also the other car manufacturers will be forced to produce the cost effective cars to beat the competition

tatas nano will be a great problem to our global system. it will increase th trafic, polution n all. as its very cheap all will buy a car it can damage th trafic system

indeed tata nano is a great achievement...its like a dream come true for many indian families who were not able to afford four wheeler till now...bt we shud do smthing related to managing traffic as well...

i ont thnikn tata nano is a gud car its only a facination. no secure, & its top speed is 50km. it will be like revas electric car.

I guess with nano now set to be a sure success , its high time the govt starts putting serious thought into the traffic menaces which are going to get further aggravated by the nano

Despite of low cost, Nano has its high standards with safety and performance. It is priced approximately half the price of its near competitors i.e. China’s QQ3Y Chery and Maruti800 which costs $5000 USD. The car is finds its potential market in various segments and in various areas of application.
• Compact car in average peak hour traffic (16-18 Kmph) in major Indian cities
o Length 3.1m, Height 1.6m, Width 1.5m
• Better safety
o 2 cylinder non opposed petrol engine with single balancer shaft
o Strong seats, tubeless tires.
The following are expected to use Nano:
• People facing traffic problems in peak hour who drive single or with pillion for the same. People owning sedan are expected to shift to Nano to avail better fuel economy of nearly 20Km/L
• Indian two wheeler owners who buy approx 40-50 lakh vehicles per year are expected to shift to Nano as premium motorcycles cost nearly 80000.
• There is a much potential to replace auto rickshaw as price is nearly equal with better safety and performance efficiency.
• Safer ride than unbalanced scooter with 4people on it.
• People desiring to own car but wait for financial resources. In India there is 7car/1000 people
• 5M vehicle in Delhi roads meet 1/5th of transport needs. Overcrowded bus and high cost to afford other cars.
• Small families: 21% more space than Maruti800
• Youngsters for better safety and performance than having two wheelers
• Efficient: Euro IV and Bharat III standard with better fuel economy than other vehicles
• Indian market is value conscious, so the acceptance of car is very high in overall demography.
• Connectivity and potential in rural market.
o Tubeless tires and all weather condition car
• Urban working class: low maintaince due to high end 34 patented design technology
• SUV and sedan owners
• Gas in India is costlier
• Van owners

Bringing Nano in reality is indeed a great achievement for TATA Motors as it has not only succeeded in building a car for the masses but it has also put Indian Automobile makers on the global platform. However, it may have serious implications on the infrastructure. So guys just drive your hearts out till Nano hits the roads !!

Has anybody here tried a System Dynamics approach to model the production and marketing of Tata Nano ? I am about to finish with the model and simulation and if anybody is interested i would love to share it..

At one time we speak that india should be a prosperous nation and everybody should have a car, and when TATA has taken a step furthur to realise this dream we are fighting on other things. The solution is not to take steps to curtail vehicle use but to build our infrastructure which will indeed also help to prvide employment to the people.
