Established by Jamshetji Tata and J. Baker in 1945 as a locomotive manufacturing unit. Tata Motors entered into a collaboration with Daimler Benz in 1954 to manufacture commercial vehicles. 1960-1986 : Started its commercial vehicle operations
1987-1996 : Entered joint ventures route and signed
a deal with Cummins Engine Co. Inc in 1993 for manufacture of high horsepower and emission friendly diesel engines. 1997-2006: Entered the passenger vehicle market with Tata Indica.
