Description
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a critical role in a nation's economy. The US Small Business Administration (2010) estimates SMEs represent 99.7 % of all employer firms, employ about 50% of the private sector workforce, and pay more than 45% of total private payroll in the country. Similar economic effects can be found in the United Kingdom, where SMEs accounted for about 50% of the UK GDP and almost 60% of manufacturing employment (Quayle, 2002).
