Students grading teachers

In Germany they have a law that passed which allows students to grade teachers online. As far as I can tell it wasn't just college level but like grade and high schools in which we find some do here in the USA also.


Do you think this is a useful way for teachers to listen to what the students are saying? It is probably not completely fool proof and you will always have those students who want some type of pay back for a bad grade. But in general could it be a useful tool to add to the schools for feedback from the students?

Maybe there could be certain restrictions on how students graded. They could fill out a comment sheet or questionnaire, for example. This would keep good teachers from being called bad teachers by students who don't like the teachers or subjects, or who do not care enough to fill out the whole form.

While it is up to individual schools to decide the issue, I think students should grade their teachers. After all, don't they grade us every day?

As a student, I have heard several classmates bash certain teachers out of anger because they received a bad grade, they thought the work load was too hard, or they just didn't like the teachers. Most of the time the teachers being insulted are skilled at teaching and often go above and beyond what is required in order to help students learn. If students like these could grade teachers, many teachers' grades would not accurately reflect their performance in the classroom.
Students deserve to have a way to measure the performance of their teachers and how well they meet expectations, but their grades should not affect teachers' salary or position because the grading is so subjective.
