Star TV office in Mumbai ransacked

The Mumbai office of Star TV, which is located at Dr E Moses Road, Mahalaxmi complex, was on Monday ransacked by a group of activists allegedly belonging to the Hindu Rashtriya Sena.

The activists allegedly belonging to a little known organisation called Hindu Rashtriya Sena protested against the presence of a couple from Surat in the studio.

The boy is reportedly a Muslim and the girl a Hindu and a minor. The boy has been taken into custody and the girl sent to a remand home.

The attackers smashed a car parked outside the office and also damaged the office furniture, police said. The motive behind the attack was not known immediately.

Speaking about the incident CEO of Star TV Uday Shankar said,” The attack happened on Monday evening because of a story that we carried. We have never heard of the group, which attacked the office. They call themselves Hindu Rashtriya Sena. It is difficult to say who they are and it was just a bunch of people who just came and attacked the premises of star news and broke everything inside including private properties of employees. “

“Some people have got minor injuries mercy fully no serious injuries. In this specific case there was no earlier threat. Media is under pressure since for long time. Every time you report something, one small group of people do not like and they are likely to come and attack you. We don’t even know whether what was the exact provocation was,” he added.

Mumbai Commissioner of Police D N Jhadav said, “A little known group Hindu Rashtriya Sena was behind the attack. We have detained 35 people in the case. We will take all legal action.”

“All the media organisation is facing this threat and later on it’s going to go up and the government and the authority don’t seem to take note of it at all which is the most disappointing part,” Uday Shankar said.
