"Successful Men Don't Steal Things, ...Hurt Others": Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
Spiritual Guru Spells Mantras for Students to Marry Success with Happiness
Greater Noida August 31, 2014, Nuggets like 'Successful men don't steal things', 'Don't hurt others to have fun' and 'enjoy giving back to the society' were among dozens of mantras to marry success with happiness from globally celebrated spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar that over 3000 corporate leaders, civil servants, academicians, management students and citizens of Greater Noida and Noida took away from a session here Saturday.
Talking about formula for success, the Art of Living founder exhorted young Indians, "Pursue you chosen profession with passion, as passion is what helps achieve excellence. And once you achieve success make sure you stem every trace of arrogance."
"The success of an individual lies in adopting a firm resolve, steadfast confidence and fearless attitude in life. Successful men and women don't steal things because they can create wealth," said Sri Sri Ravi Shankar lamenting that the practice of successful people giving back to the society is waning.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar deplored the practice of ragging and spurred students to look for innovative ways to have fun. The spiritual guru advised management students to focus and fully concentrate on academics and participate in extracurricular activities, and thereby develop a multifaceted personality.
Dr Harivansh Chaturvedi, director of Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), that instituted the 'Success and Happiness' lecture series welcomed Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and said that the visit of His Holiness marks the 10th anniversary of BIMTECH's Noida campus.
Ability to share and give lies in the mind Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said that happiness can be achieved only when we shed unpleasant memories of the past. Extending the concept of happiness to the immediate family, the noted humanitarian said it is not possible to experience happiness when those around us are unhappy.
Successful nations have unoccupied beds in hospitals and empty prison cells, said the spiritual guru who has a fan following in 152 countries. He has played a role in resolving global conflicts through his message of peace and harmony.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar asked the audience to reflect on why many successful people are so easily irritable or wear a tense look or suffer from life style diseases.
The Art of Living founder's mantra for success was to enjoy winning as much as making others win. He recounted how lives of many leaders had their share of extraordinary success, albeit peppered with failures.
He asked teenagers and octogenarians alike to look for the best practices among Indian traditions and culture and adopt them for spreading happiness.
When asked if it is possible to be successful without happiness, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said just as technology brings physical comfort, spirituality ensures inner comfort.
His parting mantras: Follow your heart in life and follow your head at work and business, never ignore one or the other. Redefine success as you grow, take time for yourself and don't let peer pressure overtake you.
Dr Chaturvedi shared how BIMTECH firmly believes in instilling the spirit social responsibility among its learners in addition to playing a role as an educational institution by setting up libraries in Uttar Pradesh jails and adopting villages to offer career counselling to secondary school students and health check-ups.
