Sourcing Executives Can Open a New Chapter

It’s a matter of keeping a finger on the pulse; successful businesses adapt to change so that they are ready to grasp an opportunity yet retrench when times are tough. Retrenchment has been the story of the last few years, but the story of the next few could be a different chapter altogether.

Economic forecast

With the UK economy starting to move forward, companies will need to have a quality staff so that they can take advantage of the opportunity that is presenting itself. Only this week, the quarterly survey by the British Chamber of Commerce reported on results, having consulted 8,000 businesses in the process. The general conclusion was that indicators were the most positive since 2007, with the real good news being that manufacturing seemed to have a healthy future. Order books are filling and employment rising. The main negative was access to finances, which has been a problem since the banks got into difficulties a few years ago.

The Office of Budget Responsibility has revised its growth forecast for 2013 to 1.4% from the 0.6% predicted in March. It suggests that the growth for 2014 will be 2.4%, so now is the time for businesses to act. If that action involves the need for a senior staff to implement a strategy, then there will be competition for the most qualified people; it is essential to find them.

Find the right executive

Executive search services go beyond selecting from a range of applicants. There are many suitable candidates for important vacancies who are perhaps not even thinking of applying for new positions. They may be perfectly settled where they are, unaware of opportunities that will provide more challenges and satisfaction, not to mention an attractive remuneration package. Some people do not know because they aren’t reading the “Situations Vacant” advertisements.

While traditional forms of advertising are still used to fill vacancies, they do not reach everywhere. Specialists are likely to know of quality personnel or know the best way to find what would be an ideal match for what a client might be seeking.

Go for reputation

The search is not as easy as it might seem. It is a skill that recruitment agencies have developed over years, and you should look for one with a reputation for successful placements over a period of time; the longer, the better, because that suggests it has been successful through the enormous changes that are occurring.

Nothing can happen without a clear idea of what a company is looking for. A good agency is likely to have the strategic questions that will help to create that picture from the answers provided. The same in-depth process will be needed to identify the best candidate for the role. It cannot, of course, be an exact science, but the chances of a company getting that executive who can help to move the business forward improve greatly with a little agency help.
