Smoking in public areas

A ban would encourage smokers to smoke less or give up. If smoking was banned in public places, it would no longer be a social activity. Instead, smokers would have to leave their friends inside and go outside to smoke. This would be particularly unpleasant when it is cold/wet. One third of smokers in Scotland said the ban was helping them to cut down. If smoking was a less social activity, fewer people would start smoking. In many countries, governments pay all or some of the cost of treating smoking-related diseases. This means that governments should have a right to discourage smoking.

The government is also working on other aspects of the Act like prohibition of sale of tobacco products near educational institutions, mandatory depiction of statutory warning including pictorial warning on tobacco products and mandatory depiction of tar and nicotine content, health ministry officials said.

ITC supports anti-tobacco law
These rules are likely to be ready in three months, but government would give some time to the industry before they actually come into force, they said.

though the govt. r tryin to pass a bill 4 anti tobacco law bt the r nt doin it sincerely.... initially they to sincere efforts for tobacco prohibition like the prohibitd smokin near education institutions, office places etc. bt aftr that nothin worked out of furthr 4 prohibition.... nw no one cr 4 penalisin.......

ths prob is really increasin day by day ...more youth is gettin attracted to this habit...govt should put sm strict regulations on it..
at d same time we people should do sthn abt it we cnt b dependent on govt only...one should try to spread awareness abt its damages..

Yes!!

I think people has the rigth to smoke as long as it doen't bother others.... in this case you are harming innocents who dislikes smoking.

I think that in this special case goverment has and must regulate smoking in public areas.

YEAH, SMOKING IS BRINGING UP MORE GAS IN THE AIR. WHICH IS OFCOURSE A POLLUTANT. THE ONLY THING BEHIND SMOKING IS ADDICTION....

JUST FOR A SAKE OF ENJOYMENT AND THEN SUFFERING OUT WITH ADDICTION... N NUMBER OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SUFFERING WITH BRONCHITIS AND MANY OTHER DISEASES...

GOVT SHOULD TAKE A STRICT STEP AND BAN OUT THE SMOKING. HOWEVER, THERE IS A LONG WAY TO GO. BCOZ THE INDIAN STREETS AND PANWALA'S WILL BE SUFFERING DUE TO SUCH BANS...

I am a non-smoker and am pro-ban. In many places, there are no non-smoking bars or restaurants. Unless people refuse to go out with friends who smoke, they cannot avoid passive smoking. People who work in smoky workplaces like bars often do not freely choose this and sometimes there are no other jobs are available for them.

Secondhand smoke is one single reason why public space smoking remains an alarming public health hazard. The only protection that non-smokers can possibly get is through legislated restriction of smoking in public places or some tighter tobacco regulations.
Children in homes remain the hopeless captives of involuntary smoking since on their own they cannot escape. In fact even when the parent leaves for work or some other chores; thirdhand smoke hanging in clothes, carpets, curtains and other such places is still dangerous. Government instituted bans end just outside the door into the house.
