Connect Asia: Epicentre of Next Generation Growth at Communique’09​

Pune, 26th September 2009.

Symbiosis Institute of Telecom Management organized their flagship event Communique’09- Asian Telecom Seminar on the 25thand 26th September 2009. The theme for the two day event was ‘Connect Asia: Epicentre of Next Generation Growth’.

The inauguration was marked by the presence of Dr. M S Raste, Vice Chancellor of SIU, Mr. Justin Ho, CEO of Utiba Mobility, Singapore, Mr. John Crossley, CEO, Alcaltel Lucent Managed Solutions and Mr. Anshoo Gaur, Country Head, Amdocs and many more. The Chief Guest, Mr. Anshoo Gaur enlightened the audience on the contemporary global affairs, stressing that the centre of gravity of the world’s economy has shifted towards Asia and thus justifying the theme of ATS. The guest of Honour, Mr. Justin Ho,discussed about the future of mobile operators and the innovative business models in which the content and distribution part of the telecom value chain would play a crucial role.

The first day also witnessed case studies from distinguished speakers like Mr. John Crossley, CEO, Alcatel Lucent (Managed Services in Telecom), Ms Helani Galpaya, COO, Lirne Asia (Political economy of ICT in Asia) and Mr. Ritesh Andley, Director, Product Marketing, Utiba Mobility, Singapore ( M-Commerce in Philippines). Mr. Baburajan, Executive Editor, Voice & Data, Mr. Kundan Das, Director, Solutions Marketing, Starent Networks, Mr. Kunal Bajaj, MD, BDA Connect, Mr. Shyam Kaushal, Regional Director, WiMAX Forum, Mr. Abdul Khan, Head, Marketing, TATA Docomo and Tata Teleservices(Maharastra) Limited, Ms Helani Galpaya, COO, LirneAsia, Sri Lanka, Mr. Roger Zao Ping, Senior Telecom Expert & Vice President, China Telecom, provided their valuable insights on topics like ‘Drive 3G or go beyond’ and ‘ICT at the bottom of pyramid’.

The institute unveiled the 7th Annual Telecom Forecast- Prevision’10, which includes 10 broad verticals covering the length and breadth of the entire telecom value chain. Prevision, audited by Deloitte Haskins & Sells, is a collective endeavor of SITM students backed by inputs from the alumni and industry.


The concluding day of the seminar began with a case study on ‘3G Market in China-post restructuring’ by Mr. Rogers Zhao Ping from China Telecom followed by a case study on ‘Revenue Assurance’ by Mr. Louis Khor, Director of Research and Industry Analysis, GRAPA, Singapore. The day also witnessed panel discussions on ‘Dynamics of Telecom during slowdown’, ‘Incumbents vs. Entrants’ and ‘Green Technology’ with esteemed panelists like Mr. Anupam Goswami (Executive Editor, Business India), Mr. Rajiv Dingra(CEO and Founder, Wat Blog.com), Mr. Satyen N. Gupta (Chief Regulatory Advisor, British Telecom), Mr. Abdul Khan (Head Marketing, Tata DOCOMO and Tata Teleservices Maharashtra Limited), Mr. Vikas Goel (Senior VP, Marketing, Virgin Mobile), Mr. Selvam K (CIO, S Tel Private Ltd), Mr. Anand Agarwal (DGM, Idea Cellular Ltd). Mr. Rashedul Hossain from Grameen Phone, Bangladesh gave an insightful session on Mobile Financial Services in Bangladesh. The upcoming version 2.0 of Telecom Services was discussed by Mr. Hemant Sharma, Co-founder, Antarix Networks. The last session for the day was by Mr. Sachin Sony, Product Marketing, AKAMAI which focused on ‘Monetizing the Internet Channel’.

The event was very well received by the Industry delegates and students alike as it provided valuable insights on the Asian Telecom Industry and on Asia being the Epicentre of Next Generation Growth. The Seminar exceeded all expectations, setting a new benchmark for the future.
