Already cricket is religion in india and none of the sports is as famous as cricket in india. So,other sports like hockey should be encouraged not it should be pushed back.If national game is changed then it may affect the performance of hockey players.

No today we change national game, tomorrow national anthen, then pledge n it will go on this is not the point.

I don;t think we should change the national game just because we lost some matches or not many knows their players name...!!!! I don't know what is the criteria for selecting a national sport...

Just because present hockey team is not performing like what it used to,we should not conclude that their days are gone , instead gov. should pay attention here and provide them proper facilities to regain their position

Games are seen for fun . n i think hockey is also a lot of fun, as is cricket...

Game dosen't bring sensation.media and people makes the game popular. For a fact india is having 1/6th of world's population and only one game is popular.Where as is in other countries like china, usa rusia all game have equal importance and popularity.

In biggest coutries like USA russia china cricket is not popular so if someday become unpopular in india u will again ask for some other game

The debate should not be about the national game. It should be about the quality of all the games which are being played in India. We boast of one of the oldest civilised society in the world. But till date we have hardly won 20 medals in olympics. We are not even able to get through the qualifying round of FIFA world cup. This is something which should be thought over and prompt action should be taken. We can always go and check out the systems of China, Australia.

no i don't think that India should change the national game, hockey is also a great game. the problem is that we don't encourage hockey. u can see that every where there is cricket fever but no one want to be get the hockey fever. We just have to encourage hockey just like the cricket .

if a sports isa not working or is not that popular doesnt mean change it. thoug cricket is doing good but hockey is not too far away. after chak de it has to an extent got its fame back. if it is not doing well than improve the sport. get good players and coach. it doesnt mean change the sport. if gandhi loses charm among indian pople does it mean that father of our nation will be changed.

I feel Gandhi will never loose its charm as you say, its because of his efforts we are fortunate to be free. Secondly, although if players do work hard and go on working much more harder and what if they dont get certain amount of boost from all of us specially the media people, authorities concerned wont they feel left out, inspite of the fact that the game is our national game.

i think people who nationalised hockey as national game may also have not thought that the sport would loose charm in the future.

also do i think if the players work hard and get trophies media will divert its attention towards hockey to an extent.

Winning a trophy, will it really cater to what will evoke the popularity of this sport.... even the cricketers get media attention after loosing.. why is this so then????

because cricketers have won a lot in the past. even hockey has done a lot but not as much as cricket. agreed sports is is of both win or lose but hockey hasnt yet yield the success which cricket has done.if hockey also gets trophy then media will highlight it also.afteralol media also needs news. why wouldnt it highlight hockey.

It makes very little sense to still have hockey as the national game . As was evident from the recent hockey games , even the big celebs roped in to bring back the hockey fans couldn't stop the stands being empty. Contrast this to cricket which has taken a cult status. It simply makes no sense to still have hockey as the national game when our global rankings are pathetic and when the team fails to even qualify for the world cup. It time we let go of the legacy and start being practical.

though cricket is very famous, hockey has a glorious past. more countries play hockey than cricket. it is time to revive the sport system in India and encourage hockey and players.
if we change national game to cricket, we may have to change it again to football after sometime when cricket will loose its charm. then there will be no meaning of national game.

india has such a big advantage of being one of the biggest cricketing nation, we should capitalize on that. this could be done by making cricket as our national sport and then promoting it to even a higher level. if promoted in the proper manner, cricket could become a big industry in india, though already with the IPL the process has started, but more systematic way could work wonders for us. it could lead to foreign investment, employment, a sporting spirit which would unite our nation and keep it tied together.

after all what is the harm if we are so good at something and we take it to the next level..

National game should be a game that represents whole nation.....and today cricket is the only game that is capable of doing this....cricket almost connects whole nation no matter from which state they belong what language they speak what religion they follow.

So national game should be changed from hocky to cricket....

if cricket is a popular game it doesn't mean india should change its national game to the same..!! rather it wud be good if it shift its lil bit concentration to other games..!!!

no hockey should be kept as the national game ! People should encourage hockey, comm'n people it's our country national game, encourage it and the gov should sponsor and provide some incentives to the hockey players too, not only to the cricket players !

Today in India Cricket is a religion and is the most popular game in India but the main reason behind this it not the Games that they win or the Trophies that they get the main reason for this is the attention and the Facilites provied to them...............

Everybody is aware between the diffrence of facilites provided to the Cricketers and other sports person.............

Other sports cannot make it to the various international events is merely because of the lack of infrastructure that is present in India...............

Rather thatn thinking on Changing the National Game why cant we try to genrate our intrest on the other Games present in INDIA its Players so that it will give a fair chance to all the games to show its presence and importance..................

This in turn will also be helpful to genrate future players of diffrent sports.................
