Should alcohol be banned ???

Practically it is not possible to stop consumption of alcohol by banning it.
Its is not the alcohol that destroys lives, its is the weakness of mind that cannot control the urge.

well said.... by andy cool

certain alcohol r considered pride of a nation..like wine, champagne..etc for europeans.. id banning things cum den de r also cigarettes n pan gutka..
Lets be practical in our solution... its not going to be banned for yrs n yrs to come.. coz esp for SOME men it is considered as d prestige thing.."mardoh wali baat" we can ban d extrme cheap quality ones...i.e. mixed wit some spirits n all. Otherwise educate d mass abt low consumption n also break d myth " i need to forget my pain n soothe my heart so i m drinking"... just stop d overuse..dat is d dunkards!!

it shouldn't b banned..evry1 has d rite 2 do wt he thinks is rite...If it doesn't hampers others privacy then it's completely ok

i don't support this idea at all. banning alcohol will not solve a problem that is essentially a problem of 'not knowing when to stop'. most liquor, consumed in moderation, has a neutral or beneficial effect and stimulates conversation. it is precisely because a bunch of hypocrites has decreed that ALL liquor is bad, that we have shady bars and hooch adda's where people end up drinking in excess.
i had my first drink when i was eleven (that's not counting wine at communion) and can proudly say that despite that seemingly sinful start, i'm not an alcoholic and there hasn't been a single occassion when i've lost control of my senses or done anything i would not have done while sober.
essentially what i'm saying is, don't blame the drink, blame the person who drinks it for the consequences.

I think Alcohol should be banned ..as it leads to deaths, accidents, family issue every day with one or other. There are more harms attached to it than benefits..from an overall society perspective..this should be banned..

Well Said Catherine... Blame the person who thinks consuming alcohol is a temporary License to disturb the society.... i remember in my teens me too thought that we could do whatever wrong while drunk coz a simple sorry for being not in sense would be enough to patch up the matters... now m a Non-Drinker but i knw the extreme of consumption & it's really of no use to society... somehow it also have several medicinal properties so we can't Ban it & ya Banning it in India is almost similar to Impossible until we got a Intelligent Dictator...

CAn anybody see gujurat case while banning alcohol

Alcohol Banned but highest alcohol consumption

So the solution is not banning alcohol:SugarwareZ-142:

No, it has been proved that alcohol in moderation is good for the heart. Also, people will not stop consuming alcohol, taken for recreational purpose it helps people bond and relax. Banning it will give rise to more trouble, people will start rebelling and get very aggressive, this is bound to ultimately hamper the society's image and make it a bad place to live.

I f Govt bans alcohol all of a sudden,Do people who used to take it stops taking it :-)Never.......Instead they try to find ways from where they can get it,indeed results in Black market ,We can say Illegal trade,We have to make them realise why do they want to take it,but people who are well educated ,literates also takes that,so who in the world tells them to stop consuming ,even if someone tells do they stop consuming........I think there is no possibilty in banning as it doesnt stop people from consuming..

Hi Everyone out there Good Topic to Debate.....

I would say NO!!!!
This is the one industry where government is earning good amount of tax ....

Additional to this the employmwnt opportunity in this industry is good....

But at the same time I should ay that the Local type i.e. DESHI, or Hath BATHI should be Banned these are nothing but curse tosociety

Isn't this whole issue about being judgmental? Who are we to decide about that whether alcohol is good or bad. Let the person himself decide about it. :SugarwareZ-188:

Banning alchohol is not a solution. It will only make it illegal and abusers would still continue, albeit illegally. The solution lies in education, motivation, and overall quality of life improvement. It is an excercise in the homes becoming much stronger and more positive.

it's impossible in india to ban the alcohol & we are not sitting in parliament to pass out a so called' bill about banning it or not... so please do not Over React & just think about the whole society not as a individual... i myself was a consumer of more than 850 ml per day but nw i quit... so it's just a public opinion nothing like a matter of argument guys....

A good topic to debate on.

Alcohol as somebody has already pointed out generates a lot of revenue to the Indian treasury. It is one of the major contributors to the revenue to the country. To ban it would lead to a serious loss. Also, as you are all aware every time a ban takes place (simple macro economics applies) there leads to black markets withing the country. This would lead to more and more illegal trade of the same. This would bring in much worse and uncontrollable situation in our country esp taking its geography and population size into consideration. Also few of our states like Gujarat have imposed a ban currently and have been able to register phenomenal growth however this growth might not be possible for every state as there are other factors which come into picture as well.

Hence, banning alcohol might not be a good idea. Ours is a warm country unlike the US which is cold nation and alcohol consumption is important to the lives of people there. Hence, alcohol consumption in our country is more of a western fashion rather than a necessity. Hence, by the awareness campaigns, doctors instructing patients, and every one helping in creating a positive society by at-least reducing the amount of alcohol being consumed by their friends could lead to a better situation.

before even thinking of banning alcohol thinks thr r many other option to get high or stoned so people who drink doesnt mean thy only drink to get high but many a times u feel comfortable&lively and put u in a groove with ur friends family and society members...... and if u banned it thr will other ways liquor industry will flourished like any thing which will hamper the quality. let me a given example (marijuana) many country like holland and some european nation dont have a ban so people out thr doesnt have to smuggle but countries like india .Usa many drug lords get income from smuggling these stuff and hamper the country economy and as its legal in holland many people like to visit the place and ther tourism is also high ........thts my view .
Thank you!!!!
