Shantanu Mugdal@IIMA says Insight was a much awaited event

1. How would you describe yourself and your institute?

I am an ambitious and hard working person and I believe this institute also values these attributes. IIM A was dream destination and I have found it to be worth its brand image. The facilities, faculty and overall system is just outstanding. The academic life is very rigrous but that is part of the training that IIM A provides for the corporate life ahead.

2. What are the events at IIM-A? According to you which is the most happening and why?

IIM A is a happening place and something is going on all the time. INSIGHT, our marketing festival is one of the most awaited events on campus. It is the oldest marketing research festival and allows MBA grads from all over the country an excellent opportunity to work on real projects with corporate. Besides projects, INSIGHT 2011 also has 2 jam packed days full of exciting events.

3. Was IIM-A your dream MBA Institute ? What efforts/plans did you have in your mind to achieve it?

IIM A is the dream destination for every MBA aspirant and it was mine too. My preparation for CAT included appearing for a lot of MOCK CAT’s . I believe CAT success is based more on strategy for taking the test rather than in depth knowledge of the subjects.

4. Would you like to share few tips to crack CAT and GDPI aspirants who also see IIM-A as their dream Institute?

CAT is very smart exam and has to be approached with a plan. Try out different approaches before the exam in mock CAT exams and figure out the best plan for yourself. A balanced score across sections is the only way to get a call. The sooner you realize your weaker sections and start targeted preparation the better it is.

The next stage GDPI is equally challenging as you are pitted against the best. For the personal interview my tip would be to not bluff. The faculty is very experienced and they are there to test what to know and not what you don’t!! . So prepare what you know and try to drive the interview in that direction.

5. How would you, as an MBA bring about a change in management practices and thoughts over time?

Indian corporate landscape is changing rapidly and I believe this is an exciting time to do an MBA and join the corporate world. I want to join the financial sector. Our growth is offering new opportunities and challenges and I would like to participate and contribute to the changes that will shape our financial economy for the coming decades.

6. If you was to choose a Organization of your choice to Work for ____? Which one would it be and Why?

I would like to join an investment bank with presence in India. Reasons being my interest in the investment industry and my desire to work and contribute to the Indian financial services sector.

7. What do you feel about the management education in India and abroad? Do you feel there lies the difference if yes then in what ways?

I have not had any experience of management education abroad and so it would be unfair of me to comment on the same.
