Yea, we have heard it enough on Television, So whats your take on da selection of cricketers in the Indian Cricket team. Should it be according to the performance of the player or the reputation.??? Or you have another answer for this....
Post in your replies, Voice it out... Bindaas

I feel that selection should be on da basis of performance, coz the fact about cricket is unlike football per player dosent have Individual value but has a brand value for advertisements. In football every player has a value, so depending on the players performance his value also increases.
In cricket a batsman will only feild and if he is on the 4th position and the team wins the match without even him batting, he will still get paid for only feilding.
A players performance is v.important and if he is dropped , the selector should not publicise the fact that its bcoz of his inconsistency but bcoz they are trying out new young players for the future prospects of the team.

My take on this is that the selection of the team should be entirely based on the performance, its quality and consistency and NOT AGE... All the talk about the big3 being too old is ridiculous... From 2003 onwards Sachin has the best ODI record amongst the current crop of players with a phenomenal average of 48 and a strike rate in the mid 80's. Likewise sourav and rahul have also performed more often than not. The average Indian mind is very fickle; they tend t jump from one shore to another very quickly. The T20 victory was good no doubt, but one has 2 understand that the 50over a side and test matches demand a lot more. So i think an australian policy where performance alone is the yardsyick should be adopted here too.

for me the selection criteria should solely depend on PERFORMANCE.... either u are 34 or 24.... u perform to be in the team.... experience does have an edge since they have already proved themselves an n number of times but that should not mean that a player can take his place in the team for grated

I would say selection of player shud be based on performance of the player. But most important question is how do you measure the performance of a player. No one can draw a firm conclusion on the performance based only on statistics or from a figures about a player on wrt some series. But I could say the selection shoud never be based on reputation.

Performance is definitely the yardstick but how they measure performance is the question.

i think selection should be on the basis of current performance but past perfomances and expirience should also be considered as experience player can be useful in tough conditions

see reputation comes for those who perform well..! and worst comedy in India is , ppl who are not at all concerned with cricket will select players to play for our country..politics ditch game..and players ditch country ...! and selection must purely be based on perfomance in past ten matches..!

I think the Selection Board study very seriously the kind of strategy being followed by the Australians. The average career life of 'most' of the Australian players barring a few exceptions is not more than 5-6 years. This creates hunger in the players to do their best as they know their career is going to very strongly dependant on their performance in each and every match. And age is definitely not a factor as there are players like Hayden and Symonds starting their career very late. Where as what is happening in India is when a player performs well in a the initial years then he becomes a very good choice for a very long career. And our players are literally taking it easy as they have many more avenues of making money than depending only on cricket for their livelihood.

What Say!!
