safe to share photos publicly?

I am left bewildered every time I see people uploading complete photo albums on Facebook or Orkut. The number of photos is sometimes more than 100s.It's OK to keep one of your own photo as the display pic on your profile.
But why put your relatives & friends there? Whats the need?
Do you find it really 'that' safe to share photos publicly?
 
I really dont understad the need to upload it on networking sites. But there are privacy settings That the uploaded pictures to be visible only to friends and not unknown persons. So, as far as privacy is maintained, I dont find any harm in sharing..
 
I hate it when people post pics with me in them on the internet. That, imo, is a violation of m privacy, even if its done by friends.
 
Play it safe with your photos. Be careful about the photos you post. Anything open to public access is vulnerable to misuse.
