Overview

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is one of the few Public Ivy League Schools.

It was founded over 240 years ago in 1766 and is distinguished as one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in the United States. Rutgers has been a pioneer in an array of academic and professional fields.

The Rutgers Business School (RBS) was founded in 1929 as the Seth Boyden School of Business. As an undergraduate college in New Jersey's largest city, Seth Boyden primarily served first generation college students. However, the focus started to gradually change in the early 1950s when MBA and MBA in Professional Accounting programs were added (the latter was the first of its kind in the United States). For almost three decades beginning in the mid-1960s, RBS focused exclusively on graduate education. A PhD in Management was created in 1978 and an Executive MBA program was established in 1980.

Rutgers Business School has been offering first-rate, graduate business instruction in China on a continuous basis since 1994, longer than any other American business school.

Today the Executive MBA program is offered in both Beijing and Shanghai.

Executive MBA Program

The Rutgers Executive MBA curriculum examines the "hows", "whys" and "what ifs" of a business from formation to transformation. Throughout this examination, students gain or refine the skills essential to successful decision making.

The 14-month Program is comprised of 18 courses; 14 core courses and 4 electives that are all taught in English. Each course consists of 38-hours of classroom time and the content mirrors what is taught in the United States.

The program begins with an intensive nine days where the participants and the faculty work together. In addition to the class work, this week is designed to orient the participants to the program and ease the apprehension that is naturally felt for many who have not been students for 10, 15, and maybe even 25 years. After the initial nine days, students feel confident that they can do what is needed to succeed.

After the initial nine day session, courses consist of two consecutive weekends and two weekday evenings each month. The schedule was specifically designed to minimize time away from the workplace and maximize information retention and back at work applicability.

The program concludes with a capstone full-time week, when the students focus on strategy and policy issues, using the skills they have learned over the course of the year.

The EMBA program utilizes a "building-block" approach where each course builds upon the previous while keeping to an absolute minimum the redundancy in the delivery of information.

Students are organized into teams that work together throughout the entire Program. Team members study and work on projects together, tutor one another, and complement one another's strengths and weaknesses. This approach also gives individuals the chance to hone their team building and leadership skills which can be applied directly back to their work environment.

Re: Admissions

Admissions

Admission to the EMBA Program is highly competitive, and enrollment is limited.
Every applicant must meet the Rutgers Business School's admission standards:

* A four-year bachelor's degree or international equivalent from an accredited university/institution (other applicants are encouraged to contact admissions office to discuss possible academic opportunities).
* Seven years of work experience.
* Three years of management experience.
* A successful interview with a Rutgers Business School representative.
* Maturity and motivation.


The criteria for selection include the applicant's potential for success at senior management levels and the ability and motivation to participate in a rigorous and intensive course of study while employed.

Submission deadlines to join the class are:

Shanghai - Class of 2008-2009 is currently waitlisted
Beijing - August 31st, 2008 (Class of 2008-2009)

You may begin the application process by submitting to via fax, mail, or e-mail the application form along with your current resume. The application form can be downloaded by clicking here or by contacting the Rutgers EMBA Program office closest to you. Other materials can be submitted when they are available.

Applications can be submitted to the Rutgers Office in Beijing, Shanghai or sent directly to New Jersey. A complete application package includes:

* Completed Application Form
* Resume / Curriculum Vitae
* US$50 application fee
* Official University transcripts and Diplomas
* Personal statement
* Two letters of recommendation preferably from:
- Supervisor/boss
- Professor
- Associate
* Letter of Financial Responsibility


A faculty admissions committee will evaluate your completed application package and will make a recommendation regarding your admission to the Director of International Programs. Once the evaluation of your application package is completed, you will be sent an acceptance, rejection, or waiting list letter.

Fees

The total cost to complete the 14-month International Executive MBA Program is US$41,000. The fees are all-inclusive and include tuition, books and materials and refreshments. All tuition payments are made directly to Rutgers via check, wire transfer or credit card. Students are expected to remit the total tuition payments in one or two installments.

Upon acceptance into the Program, a candidate must pay a US$1,500 non-refundable deposit to guarantee a place in the Class of 2009. All matriculating students must also pay the first refundable tuition installment prior to the first course.

RMB Revaluation Note: With the revaluation of the RMB it may be necessary to adjust the program charges periodically. For the Shanghai program all charges paid by July 1st, 2008 will remain as above and for the Beijing program all charges paid by September 1st, 2008 will remain as above. Remaining payments, including the second installment due on February 1st, 2009 (Shanghai program) and April 1st, 2009 (Beijing program), will be adjusted from the current RMB/USD rate of 7.0 to reflect any interim change in the RMB revaluation.
