FDI in retail sector is one of the most debateable topic in recent times......

Many political parties are against it..some are in its favour

Bt soon..India will be on a way of walmartization

so...guyz wat u think about this...is it a boon or a bane

waiting for ur replies...

Probably a boon..

Farmers r gona be real happy.

All their produce will be purchased by giants like reliance, hll, walmart etc.

Boon for consumers as well.. because the quality of products will be better than the ones around as of now.

But then, you will have to pay high prices for the same ;)

Its survival of the fittest... and anyways they can always act as ancilary to the big sharks.

maybe, but after the initial fan-fare, walmart would have to ensure that they keep their prices under check... otherwise, no one would want to buy things that expensive when there are co-operative vendors selling the stuff in a subsidized price.

well u talking as ancilary..... they are not some big brands..they are local shops which deal with local products...so they cant become a ancilary

dude...walmart is always known for its low pricing strategies...so no reason of pricing

Yes, but they would have to ensure that it is wrt the Indian terms as well.

When u talk of the small retailers, the competition, would make them look for quality.

Eg. If u buy a cake which u like from Walmart for 110 rupees, but if another small retailer is able to provide the same quality for 100 bucks, u would go to the retailer, naturally.

Now, this begins the pricing war and walmart would find it easy to decrease it prices and with some adjustments even the small retailer would also be able to.

Net result - You get a better quality product for a reasonable price, for which u had to pay a higher price earlier.

Ofcourse they are not big brands.. hence ancilarisation.

As of now, if you take example of shoppers stop, they just put a tag of shoppers on a 150 rs shirt of some small retailer and sell it for 600.. and mind you, they only purchase from the cheapest retailer available :P

Retalization is just a made up term for big retail companies like Walmart and Indian companies like Reliance and HLL plunging in the retail markets

walmart has tied with sunil mittals Bharati... interesting..also biyani of pantaloon is expanding its base..and the new player reliance is all set to capture the mark..so good employement opp.. for us

we all want to eliminate the middle man so that consumer and farmers be benifited ...what about thse middle man ...we have to think abot them one must not be against it ...but should creat a win win situation for every body involve only way to upgrade is retail....we need to find new roles for the one who will be damaged by the process

It needs to be seen, if the farmers are paid the right price for their produce then certainly a boon and for consumers if received the products at a fair rate. Time will decide the fairness of the concept of retail in our country.
