Khadi and Village Industries sector in general has been using traditional technologies in most part driven without electric power by the artisans.


With the frontiers of KVI Products extending to urban centers and the attraction going beyond national boundaries; commercial dimensions have necessitated initiatives to improve upon the productivity of implements, processes, quality, quantity and competition, Innovation leading to development of multiple-spindle ‘Charkha’ power driven ‘Ghani’ cylinder mould vat and a host of technological changes.

Over the years it was possible for khadi and village commission to develop its own centers such as khadi Gramodyog Prayog Samiti , Ahmedabad; Kumarrapa National Handmade Paper Research Institute, Pune, Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Rural Industrialization ,Wardha etc.


In its efforts to better understand the needs of the sector, to develop innovations and to disseminate the technologies, the KVIC continued during the year, to forge several interfaces with national institutes of technology based on the area specific identification of the projects aimed at bringing about change from sub-optimal technologies to appropriately upscale technologies in order to trigger higher income generation capabilities of the rural artisans.

Allocation of budgetary resources was at Rs. 5.50 crore according to the 96% of the total plan allocation of Rs. 572.58 crore.
