Chief Product Officer (CPO)

Location: Remote (minimum 4-hour overlap with JST, Monday to Friday)
Language Requirement: Native English speaker only
Seniority: C-Level, reporting directly to CEO & CFO
Compensation: $160,000 to $200,000 base + revenue-based performance bonuses

Waifu Masters is a prestige-tier, collectible-first CCG built on scarcity, permanence, and brand integrity. We produce tightly controlled product lines, each with lasting value. Our products are designed for long-term collectors, not passing trends.

We are hiring a Chief Product Officer (CPO) to lead product vision, strategy, and execution across the Waifu Masters ecosystem. This includes physical and digital product development, design governance, lore fidelity, and production quality. The CPO will oversee the full lifecycle of every product released under the Waifu Masters brand.

Your Role

As CPO, you will oversee three core domains:

1. World and Game: You will guide the development of the Waifu Masters universe, managing writers, game designers, and narrative architects. This includes responsibility for lore cohesion, core game mechanics, and the long-term evolution of the intellectual property.

2. Art and Design: You will own the visual development pipeline and have final say on all design elements, including cards, characters, packaging, and collector-tier treatments. You will oversee the art workflow, character creation process, and ensure all visual content aligns with the brand’s tone and standards.

3. Production and Merchandising: You will direct physical production, print operations, QA, and fulfillment in coordination with the production team. You will also lead merchandising efforts, working with the Chief Marketing Officer to design and optimize product drops, new SKUs, and expansions such as apparel, playmats, sleeves, figures, and limited-run collectibles.

In addition to owning these domains, you will be responsible for building out the full product team beneath each pillar. This includes organizing the current team structure, hiring new personnel, and ensuring that each area is led by a dedicated manager with the right mix of talent, capacity, and executional rigor.

This is a high-authority position for someone capable of building systems, managing leaders, and scaling output without sacrificing quality.

Responsibilities

  • Lead product development across physical and digital categories

  • Supervise and mentor key leads across:

  • Oversee character development, visual IP control, and lore integration

  • Direct manufacturing timelines, material sourcing, vendor relationships, and print QA

  • Manage product tiering

  • Collaborate with CMO on product line expansions and revenue-driven drops

  • Maintain and refine SKU mix based on customer behavior and brand strategy

  • Ensure consistency across all collector experiences and narrative assets

  • Build, organize, and scale internal teams for World/Game, Art/Design, and Production/Merchandising

Requirements

  • 5+ years of senior product leadership at a company with $10M+ in annual revenue

  • Proven track record shipping multiple physical products at scale

  • Experience managing cross-disciplinary teams including creative, technical, and operational functions

  • Strong sense of visual design, collector psychology, and lore-driven product architecture

  • Familiarity with print production, packaging, and fulfillment workflows

  • Native English speaker

  • Minimum 4-hour daily overlap with Japan Standard Time (JST), Monday to Friday

  • Ability to own and execute across game development, visual storytelling, and merchandising

  • Extreme attention to detail and brand alignment

Preferred, Not Required

  • Experience in CCGs, fandom, high-AOV collectibles, or luxury-tier goods

  • Background in worldbuilding, narrative design, or IP development

  • Knowledge of NFC, authentication, or serialized product systems

  • Japanese language proficiency is a plus, not a requirement
