The 13 years old portal Rediff.com has undergone a courageous revamp. The new homepage of rediff.com now offers a minimalistic content on the homepage and now has a major a focus on its services.

It has a search bar, a few news stories and eight icons that represent different channels -- news, movies, cricket, money, shopping and its online services: Rediffmail, My Page and iShare.

The most surprising aspect is the absence of advertising space on the homepage, which used to receive more than 1.6 million unique users and five million page views on a daily basis.

The new design is expected to create more traction for inside pages and services. Rediff can pitch in more clients for the icons that are now available on the homepage.

Majority of us here I’m sure have a rediff account, hence wats your view on this change.

However i personally feel making no ad space available will hamper its ad revenues to a extent. A portal typically relies on its homepage, for the user’s traffic. The ad placement and creativeness is mostly on the homepage compared to the inner pages. Hence is it worth a chance?? I think, a strategy could have been developed for in getting a grip on the inner pages, without remodeling the homepage entirely wic has a possibility of a dropping ad-pie.

I really think this would work for rediff.com. The world is moving fast to web 3.0 from web 2.0

Even Yahoo has launched a similar version and I think the change is very well received by users.

Simplify the homepage, give more strength to inner content and get more absolute pageviews instead of high volumes on the homepage.

Maybe we should have something similar for Management Paradise too ;)

The only thing constant in this world is change. So hw rapidly u make changes in ur outlook would mark the path of ur growth. So I personally believe tht by giving more depth to the inner pages rediff has done a gud job & it would increase the pageviews by greater extent

The new concise look is the age of the new generation which does not have the time to find things but rather do things quickly....

An upgradation to a new 1 GB storage for email makes it convenient and tension free to keep all your emails...
the drag and drop facility to arrange your mails is also provided...

The homepage shoots the services at hand directly... no more now beating around the bush to find out wheres what....:SugarwareZ-028:

Rediff was in the dumps for the last 2/3 years since competition from google intensified. It needs to engage in a major revamp if it wants to survive the competition
