Description
During in this such a breakdown, concerning realise a sustainable future is people with entrepreneurial capacity.
CREATE THE
SUSTAINABLE
FUTURE
We all dream of a sustainable future. But it will not emerge by itself.
We need to create it together.
We are heading towards a planet with ten billion inhabitants. The
ultimate challenge is how to make all these people live well inside
planetary boundaries. This challenge will drive innovation and
generate enormous opportunities in the years to come.
Chalmers can play an important role in the transformation
towards a sustainable society. With new ideas, innovations,
and knowledge to meet the needs and challenges of the
future, the dream of a sustainable society is within reach.
What we ultimately need to realise a sustainable future is people
with entrepreneurial capacity. We need the individuals and teams
willing to search for new opportunities, try new ways, and find
creative solutions to difficult challenges. They are the starters,
doers and finishers needed for any innovative project. They are the
entrepreneurs of a sustainable future.
Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship offers a unique
education where entrepreneurial students are given the
opportunity to combine their creativity with tools, guidance
and support that will allow them to shape a sustainable
future.
Welcome to an action-based education where students are allowed
to be in the frontier of innovation development, societal change and
real value creation, and where reflection about societal challenges
and about a sustainable leadership is encouraged!
Welcome to Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship!
REALISE YOUR FUTURE
Today students need to prepare for a rapidly changing world where the key to a successful career
will be the ability to create value rather than administer it. Tomorrow’s successful leaders will
be team-playing individuals capable of acting entrepreneurially in complex settings to create
value and really make things happen. Only by learning how to be entrepreneurial, you will gain
the ability to shape and realise your future.
STUDENTS WITH THE ENTREPRENEURIAL FORCE
At Chalmers school of Entrepreneurship we believe that students have the entrepreneurial force needed
to create value in society and shape a sustainable future. We help them release this ability and become
successful leaders by teaching them innovation, business creation, team dynamics and how to develop
their entrepreneurial mind-set.
We believe that you cannot only learn about entrepreneurship, you ultimately need to learn through
entrepreneurship in order to develop your entrepreneurial skills. Our action-based pedagogy and our broad
international network connect students with industry partners, idea providers, scientists, faculty, business
coaches, experienced entrepreneurs and other business creators. In this dynamic environment students
learn to master their entrepreneurial behaviour by acting entrepreneurial in real settings.
“The best choice I have made so far is to apply to Chalmers
School of Entrepreneurship. The steep learning curve, the
network gained and the personal development is something that
I leverage each and every day.”

TEAMWORK IS THE KEY
In the innovation and knowledge-based economy entrepreneurs rarely succeed on their own. A teambased approach is required to manage the complexity of business and value creation in the modern and
international society. Because of this, our education has a strong team-based pedagogy that goes beyond
just team-based exercises; it also includes in-depth reflections and discussions regarding group dynamics
and organisational behaviour. It will take you to a new level making you attractive and useful for a variety of
real-life challenges in business and beyond.
Our team and leadership development gives our students a deeper understanding of how to utilise different
learning styles and backgrounds to build innovative and high achieving teams. One of the keys to being an
entrepreneurial leader capable of successful value creation is the ability to put the right pieces together, be
it people, technology, knowledge, or other recourses.
An entrepreneurial leader is not only capable of creating value for their ventures, stakeholders or society;
they are also capable of creating their own future and reach their own goals faster.
WE GIVE STUDENTS A CHANCE TO REALISE THE FUTURE!
EXPERIENCE THE
ENTREPRENEURIAL
ENVIRONMENT
Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship is an environment where entrepreneurship is experienced
and not only taught in classrooms. Here students work with real projects during the education
and apply their knowledge, creativity and entrepreneurial ability in real settings. We combine
internationally acknowledged academic education and research with real value creation in an
entrepreneurial environment.
Our pedagogy can be seen as an experimental learning process where hypotheses and ideas are tested
and then rejected or confirmed, not only theoretically but in practice as well. To facilitate such a learning
experience we have championed a pedagogy that allow students to work with simulated business scenarios
as well as real innovation and business projects.
THE LEARNING VESSEL
At our master’s programme students get the possibility to test the potential of different inventions and ideas
by working hands-on with different innovation projects. Our faculty and learning objectives encourage the
students to apply and integrate their knowledge and creativity, in interaction with project team members,
tutors and coaches.
With students in the driver’s seat of innovation projects we depart on a joint journey - the realisation of
opportunities from the technology and bioscience fields into customer, business and societal utility. The
hands-on experiences combined with academic reflection creates a dynamic learning environment that
ensures a rapid learning pace and allows the students to hit the ground running after graduation.
The results are twofold: students develop their entrepreneurial skills, and in the process we create real
value for innovators, companies, partners and society.
THE INCUBATOR
Our incubator is a place where the venture creation track students of our master’s programme spend their
second year of the education to develop business plans based on real innovation project from academic
research and industrial R&D.
Every year around 15 projects are developed here and this results in approximately 5 start-ups each year.
Since 1997 more than 50 companies have been created here. The performance of these companies makes
Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship the leading start-up environment in Sweden.
“The bioscience track at Chalmers School of
Entrepreneurship delivered what other educations
only promised – teamwork with students from diverse
educational backgrounds and the ability to translate
bioscience ideas into business terms for all types of
stakeholders. The experience-based learning is one of
a kind.”

JOIN OUR NETWORK
Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship connects you to the leading innovative and entrepreneurial
community in Sweden, offering you a wide network and opening doors to a creative and entrepreneurial
community dedicated to create real value through the realisation of ideas and inventions.
As a student at Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship you are a vital part of the Swedish innovation
system and play a key role in our ability to bring science to mankind.
THREE WAYS FOR STUDENTS TO
CREATE VALUE
AT CHALMERS SCHOOL OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP
VENTURE CREATION
Each year the students at our venture creation tracks work in teams to develop business plans for innovative
ideas coming from research or industrial R&D. The goal is to create a real start-up company by the end of the
year that allows for the students to carry on working for the newly formed company even after graduation. If
students carry through a venture project to a successful incorporation, then they are offered co-ownership.
But this process does not only create a chance for students to shape an exciting future for themselves, it
has also been proven that offering students involvement as entrepreneurs in an early stage of the innovation
process enables more promising ideas and invention to reach the market and be implemented in society.
Since the creation of Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship in 1997 our students have created more than
50 new companies through this education-integrated process.
OXEON
Oxeon is the result of a
successful
combination
of academic research and
entrepreneurial
individuals.
Students Andreas Martsman
and Henrik Blycker were
offered the possibility to
partner with researcher Dr.
Nandan Khokar and pursue
the potential of his innovative
Tape Weaving Technology.
The result is Sweden’s fastest
growing company by 2009.
Both Andreas and Martin
are still employed within the
company.
VEHCO
Vehco’s way to success
started over 10 years ago as
three skilful students and an
industrial entrepreneur joined
forces. They had an idea to
simplify the communication in
the transport industry.
Today Vehco is one of the
leading suppliers of mobile
IT solutions for transport
in Europe. The company is
represented with sales offices
in six countries and operates
in several others. A couple of
the founders are still involved
in daily operations and in the
Vehco board.
AVINODE
Following
the
dot-com
bubble in 2001, three of our
students decided to start a
new IT-company to create
a marketplace for private
airplane charter.
Since
the
marketplace
opened in 2003, Avinode has
grown into the world’s largest
marketplace for sourcing
private charter online. The
three co-founders still work
in leading positions within the
company.
SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP
As part of the education students are given the chance to undertake a social entrepreneurship project,
known as the school project. Each class decides on a goal for their project and creates a plan for how
to reach it. During the first year of the education the students implement this plan and attract funds and
resources they need to carry out the project. Previous years have seen social entrepreneurship projects
both in Sweden and abroad, mostly in East Africa. Some examples are the creation of the Zanzibar Seaweed
Center, the Insert Africa project, and similar initiatives.
INSERT AFRICA
Insert Africa is an organisation focusing on social
entrepreneurship, which aims to improve living
conditions and welfare in Africa. The projects
realised by Insert Africa aims to establish a
sustainable economical and social growth
through providing opportunities for people to help
themselves.
SEAWEED CENTER
The Seaweed Center in Zanzibar is a social
entrepreneurship project that aims to improve the
livelihood of the local women, by providing them
with sustainable means of creating a higher valueadded product from seaweed.
CORPORATE ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Large firms have resources for large innovation. However, that requires corporate entrepreneurship and
the skill to break new ground in established settings. Almost half of the graduates from Chalmers School
of Entrepreneurship pursue careers as corporate entrepreneurs making them important for the renewal of
established business and industry. In launching a new track in corporate entrepreneurship together with
industry partners, Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship is about to take a new important step.
“
For me, the overall understanding of entrepreneurship, business ideas and
customer benefits have been valuable, both from a personal perspective and
for my employer. I work in a multinational company with a rather complex matrix
organisation and I do not think I could have just as easily grasp the big picture
and how the overall business concept is broken down and handled in the different
parts, without the education at Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship.”

MASTER’S PROGRAMME
ENTREPRENEURSHIP
& BUSINESS DESIGN
A key feature of Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship is our internationally renowned master’s
programme Entrepreneurship & Business Design. The two-year international Master of Science
programme develops your entrepreneurial ability through a combination of classroom teaching,
simulated business scenarios and the development of real R&D-based innovation projects.
EDUCATING THE FUTURE LEADER
Today’s knowledge-based economy requires
people with entrepreneurial capacity - individuals
with the ability to seize opportunities, take the
initiative and solve problems in creative ways.
At the Entrepreneurship and Business Design
programme we educate future entrepreneurial
leaders, with the ability to create and manage
innovative firms and projects. We teach students
to understand the complexity of the knowledgeeconomy and provide them with tools that allow
them to create new sustainable value. This
entrepreneurial capacity in combination with
skills in knowledge-based business design is a
much-appreciated quality in both start-ups, large
corporations and beyond.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Many of our alumni continue their path by working
in new ventures, in most cases as start-up
managers for their own firms, often started as part
of the education. Others join already existing startups and growth companies. We also see a large
amount of students joining large and established
companies, where their ability to understand
complexity and willingness to create change is
a highly appreciated competence. The creative
and independent problem solving ability of our
alumni also make them attractive employees for
consultancy firms.
REAL VALUE CREATION DURING THE
EDUCATION
Our students are involved in real innovation projects
already during the first year, and take on an even
bigger responsibility during the second year. During
the master’s programme our students focus their
entrepreneurial commitment in three main areas,
venture creation, corporate entrepreneurship and
social entrepreneurship.
Venture Creation
Each year the master students pursuing the
venture creation tracks create business plans for
innovative project with the ambition to create real
ventures. Each year 3-5 projects are incorporated
and students are offered a chance to continue to
work within the company after graduation.
“In the Entrepreneurship and Business Design Master’s
Programme I got the opportunity to develop my entrepreneurial
skills and mindset through working with real business cases
based on real inventions. I also obtained an understanding,
and hands on experience, of how science can create value for
people and organisations”
Maria Trulsson
(Graduate ‘10)
Corporate Entrepreneurship
The education allows some students to focus
their entrepreneurial ability towards established
environments and corporations. Some will work
hands on with a real and innovative project in
large firms, where they will be able to develop
and reflect on entrepreneurial behaviour and
skills in a corporate setting. In those projects the
students will also work in close collaboration with
management from industry. Other students qualify
into internships with associated companies across
the globe, where they gain real-life experience in
the high-tech business world as well as a chance
to further apply the business skills and tools they
have acquired.
Social Entrepreneurship
As part of the master’s program students can
choose to participate in a social entrepreneurship
project to create positive change in developing
areas around the world.
STUDENT BACKGROUNDS
Our team-based pedagogy is suitable for students
with various backgrounds including technology,
bioscience,
design,
business,
information
technology and law. Our aim is to develop the
students entrepreneurial ability and provide them
with both tools and hands-on experience that will
allow them to make the most of their previous
acquired skills and knowledge.
The dynamic mix of students and background s
create a learning environment where you learn as
much from your classmates as from the faculty.
ACTION BASED LEARNING
The development of real value as part of the
education is the key to the rapid learning pace of
Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship. We offer a
true learning-by-doing education, mixed with the
reflectiveness of an academic masters programme,
which allow students to hit the ground running after
graduation.
SPECIALISATION
In order to cater the different stages of innovation
and different kinds of technology, the master’s
programme Entrepreneurship and Business Design
is divided into four different tracks where the first
three courses are studied as a common class.
TWO
EXCITING
YEARS
Regardless of educational background or preferred specialisation track, the
master’s programme Entrepreneurship and Business Design will provide
students with two exciting and challenging years. Here you find a few snapshots of the practical elements that are included in our master’s programme
and example of how students create real value already during their education.
BUSINESS CREATION LAB
Each year in September a group of new and
excited students arrive to sign up for two
challenging but rewarding years at Chalmers
School of Entrepreneurship. The intense first
weeks create strong bonds between students
and faculty and are the starting point for the
Business Creation Lab, three integrated courses
where students learn the foundation of business
design and entrepreneurship.
The Business Creation Lab is a mix of theoretic
studies and simulated business scenarios.
IDEA EVALUATION
To really get an understanding of how to evaluate
potential value in innovations, the students
engage in idea evaluation courses during the
education. In these courses, the students get
access to real innovations from researchers and
scientist from around the world; their task is to
evaluate the commercial potential of the idea.
This work is an important and valuable part of
the academic innovation system.
SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP
PROJECTS
Our students carry the proud tradition of initiating
and carry out a social entrepreneurship project
each year. The projects differ from each year
and previous projects have taken the students to
different places around the world.
This experience develops the students
entrepreneurial and teamwork abilities and offers
an opportunity to use their entrepreneurial spirit to
create a positive change in society.
SUMMER INTERNSHIPS
When the Swedish summer comes as a reward
after a demanding first year many of our students
find them selves in exciting internships and
summer employments.
At the Innovation Office West at Chalmers, many
of our talented students have been employed as
much appreciated innovation developers during
summer, giving them even more experience in
regards of innovation realisation.
PROJECT YEAR
The last year is known as the project year where
students form groups and are paired with idea
partners to develop innovation projects. Together
as a team, supported by faculty and business
coaches, the students work to find the commercial
potential of the innovation.
“
Working with real ideas that were incorporated while studying, in combination with
the impression and common experiences of all the classmates, was probably the most
important of all. If a group of reasonably intelligent people gets in the right mood, and
believe in what they do, everything is possible. In the end, all success comes down to
people and a climate that allows for transparency, understanding, and action.

ENTREPRENEURIAL
GOTHENBURG
The entrepreneurial innovation system in Gothenburg provides a strong foundation for
entrepreneurial growth. Different actors work together to support both a growing start-up
community and other entrepreneurial initiatives within industry or other parts of society.
The combination of entrepreneurs, ideas, investors, industry and other actors creates a vital
entrepreneurial ecosystem that makes Gothenburg one of the most entrepreneurial parts of
Sweden.
There is also a growing recognition that student can, and must, play a vital part in the development and
realisation of innovative ideas and inventions. To support this, more and more regional actors provide
support for entrepreneurial individuals and groups.
Student at Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship are in the centre of this intriguing ecosystem and their
entrepreneurial capacity contributes to the development of the region and its impact on the rest of the
world.
EUROPE’S MOST
R&D-INTENSIVE REGION
The fictional corridor between Oslo and Copenhagen inhabits more than 40% of the population
in Scandinavia. Western Sweden as a region has one of the highest proportions of research
and development per capita in the European Union. This means that Gothenburg is
situated in the middle of a European “mega-region” – a region known to be one of the
world’s most innovative areas.
Tromsö
In this region you find 29 different universities and university colleges with 260 000 university
students and 14 000 researchers. In addition to this there are 22 science parks and
incubators in this region and more than 44 000 new business are created annually.
As a student at Chalmers School of Entrepreneurship you are given insight in the
development of this high potential region and a chance to unravel what possibilities
it holds for you.
Bodö
“The opportunity to get support and initial finance to
turn an interesting business idea into a developed value
proposition was my key motivation at Chalmers School of
Entrepreneurship. The rapid learning curve and excellent
education was a pleasant bonus.”

areas around the world.
