PREFACE

“Success comes with knowledge & knowledge comes with practice.”
The CPTP course is a stepping stone to further carrier in corporate world and for personal life too. It is necessary that the theoretical part must be supplemented with exposure to the real environment. Theoretical knowledge just provides the base and it’s not sufficient to produce a good assessor that’s why practical knowledge is needed. Therefore a lot of practices are an essential requirement for being a psychologist. This psychometric project not only helps the person to utilize his knowledge and experience properly in learn field realities but also provides a chance to do the assessment of the candidates and to find out their need, potential and other personal things.

In accordance with the requirement of CPTP course I have a psychometric assessment project. The main objective of the project is to study the basics of psychology, psychometric assessment and to know the candidate’s needs, press and other abilities which can help them in finding their SWOT i.e. strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for their further personal life and carrier. The information regarding the project is collected through the candidates who were willing to take psychometric tests.

This project highlights some basic concepts of Psychology and also some of the tests i.e. PSI, RSI and TAT interpretation.

Introduction to PSYCHOLOGY
The word psychology is a combination of two words i.e. psych (related to mind) and logy (logos-study). So psychology is concerned with the Study of understanding the human mind and behaviour. It is a unique feature of psychology that while it can be applied like the other sciences in a variety of situations, such as work, education and play, it can also be applied by the individual to promote his own happiness and minimize his sorrow. It can help analyze and understand others’ actions and, also one’s own in a better light and, improve the quality of life. The science of mental health is helpful in ensuring normal and happy mental life just as physical hygiene helps us maintain and, develop our physical health.

Psychology is applied for the assessment and treatment of mental health problems. It helps in understanding and resolving problems in many different areas of human activity. For understanding the different aspects of psychology different psychologists have given different theories. Some of the four psychologists are:

Sigmund Freud (Theory of unconscious, infantile sexuality, structure of mind) Alfred Adler (Striving for perfection, Single motivating force, striving for superiority and types of psychology) Carl Jung (Archetype, Extraversion Vs Introversion) BF Skinner (Operant condition, reinforcement)

Psychology is a vast subject and it helps in understanding the human minds and finding out their problem with the solutions.

PSYCHOMETRIC ASSESSMENT

The term ‘Psych’ relates to the word ‘mind’ which is the reason for thoughts, emotions, behavior and response to the outer world and the term ‘Metric’ relates to the word ‘measurement’ which helps in identifying the imbalances. Hence this complete term ‘Psychometric assessment’ refers to a measurement of the mind functioning as a centre of thought, emotion, behavior and the response and through which the imbalances in human mind can be identified and also these imbalances are reduced. Psychometric assessment is a term which seeks to understand the psychology of the individual, whatever the circumstances, whether in clinical, forensic, educational, counseling, health, coaching or occupational settings. Psychometric tests are a standard and scientific method used to measure individual’s mental capabilities and behavioral style. Psychometric tests are designed to measure candidate’s suitability for a role based on the required personality characteristics and aptitude. They identify the extent to which candidates' personality and cognitive abilities match those required to perform the role. Employers use the information collected from the psychometric test to identify the hidden aspects of candidates that are difficult to extract from a face-to-face interview.

Now in this era psychometric tests are the vital component in improving organizational effectiveness through the development of both the team and the individual. It helps in playing a significant role in effective member care and developing the action plan to improve their individual effectiveness and strengthen their relationship with colleagues. Here I have gone through four types of psychometric tests which has helped me in understanding the different human minds and their problems and their needs. These tests are: ? ? ? ? PSI (Personal Style Indicator): Test for traits RSI: Motivational Analysis Using Career Anchors. TAT test (Thematic Appreciation Test): Test for motives. Ability Test: Test for knowing the quantative abilities.

Test Result: After giving the Personal Style Inventory/ Indicator Test I got the following scores: I E = 17/23 Test Analysis: The above circled letters are the highest scoring letter in that particular paired dimension. When I put these four letters together, I get the personality type code. There are sixteen personality code combinations which have different descriptions for different personalities. So the combination will be ESTJ which indicates personality, the stabilizer. The detailed characteristics of this personality code are: N S =18/22 T F=26/14 P J =16/24

ESTJ – Stabilizer: Practical, realistic, matter-of-fact, with a natural headed for business or mechanics. Not interested in subject they see no use for, but can apply themselves when necessary. Like to organise and run activities. May make good administrators, especially if they remember to consider others’ feelings and point of view. Conclusion: ? The person is extrovert or we can say open so usually interactive to the outer world and he must have a wide variety and change in relationships. ? He is less independent and cannot work without people. ? He gives priority to the clear information and facts rather than guess. ? For recalling past events and facts her memory is good

? He is systematic, practical, patient and careful towards her personal as well as professional life. ? He gives priority to tasks which has to be accomplished. ? He always plans for a task in advance and works on it step by step.

Suggestions: Since he is extrovert he can express his feelings and views very well but with that I will say that he also does not think about other while speaking and sometimes this may hurt anybody. So he should think first and then act not first act and then think. As he is not interested in the subject what is not of use, he does not think of that much so the new facts might be left. So he should think from all the aspects. Subject Profile: Name: Chandrakanth Swamy. B. Tech – CSC, MBA Sr. Talent Acquisition

Test Result: After giving the Personal Style Inventory/ Indicator Test I got the following scores: I E= 22/18 Test Analysis: The above circled letters are the highest scoring letter in that particular paired dimension. When I put these four letters together, I get the personality type code. There are sixteen personality code combinations which have different descriptions for different personalities. Though I got same scoring in last pair i.e. 20, there will be two pairs. So the pair will be ISTP and ISTJ in which ISTP indicates the strategizer and ISTJ indicates the systematizer. The detailed characteristics of these personality codes are: ISTJ- Systematizer: Serious, quiet, earn success by concentration and thoroughness. Practical, orderly, matter -of – fact, logical, realistic, dependable, see to it that everything is well organized. Take responsibility. Make up their own minds as to what should be

accomplished and work toward it steadily, regardless of protests or distractions. Detail oriented and stable. Patient and sensible. Dislike novelty and frivolity ISTP- Strategizer: Cool onlookers-quiet, reserved, observing and analysing life with detached curiosity and unexpected flashes of original humour. Usually interested in impersonal principals, cause and effect, how and why mechanical things work. Exert themselves no more than they think necessary, because any waste of energy inefficient.

Conclusion:
? After studying the personality type code I would conclude that this person is having a reserve nature ? He believes in practical, logics and the reality. ? And before doing anything they first think of what they are going to do then works on that. ? This person thinks about other people and ready to listen to them. And before going to any decision first takes their suggestions. ? This person performs the given task well and with the new methods also. ? He is not stick to the time always while sees comfort ability for everyone in his surroundings. Suggestions: This person is best suitable for operational positions. Reason being, they focus more on practical and logics rather than the thinking. As he has introvert nature he might not tell his views and suggestions to others. It’s good that he listens to everyone but he should also present himself so that people should know his values also.

Brief Overview of Findings:
The Section I has details on the score analysis, personality type, preferences based on the PSI test. The PSI test is also referred to as the mini-MBTI which would enable people to discover their personality type, style, strengths, and weaknesses enabling them to:

? ?

Identify your basic personal style of responding to people, to tasks, to time and to situations. Gain self understanding and self acceptance, and a greater understanding and acceptance of others.

?

Identify the consequences of your interpersonal style when relating with others.

Test Result: A 14 B 7 C 14 D 16 E 8 F 10 G 12 H 10 I 14

Test Analysis: The above circled letters are the highest scoring letters in the RSI test. The above letters from A to I indicate different characteristics of the person being assessed. And as a result I got A, C, D, and I letters having highest scores. And these letters show some characteristics which are as follows:

A-Material Rewards: Seeking possessions, wealth, and a high standard of living. Material rewards are defined as intangible assets, including money, possessions, and quality of housing, and other material possessions. People with material rewards as a career driver take decisions about future work life primarily to enhance their material wellbeing. They seek roles, which provide a high income, and they take on tasks which may be uncongenial but which provide a high income or other material rewards. For example, they may move house or even emigrate only for material advantage. The key concern is wealth. C- Search for meaning: Seeking to do things which are believed to be valuable for their own sake. Search for meaning is defined as being motivated to do thing considered to be a

contribution to something bigger, finer or greater than the individual according to religious, emotional, moral, social or intellectual criteria. People with the search for meaning as a career driver will take decisions which are explicable only in the context of their personal beliefs and values. This may take the form of helping others rather than helping themselves. Personal fulfilment is the ultimate payoff, and they may take considerable sacrifices in order to follow their inner beliefs. The key concern is contribution. D-Expertise: Seeking to gain a high level of accomplishment in a specialized field. Expertise is defined as specialist knowledge, skills, competence and capacity to perform unusual, difficult or specialised activities. People with expertise as a career driver work hard to gain a depth of competence in limited but specified fields and will strive to maintain their specialist capability. They dislike going outside their defined area. One of their primary sources of satisfaction is being valued as an expert. The expertise may be mechanical, craft, intellectual, scientific or practical. So both a blacksmith and an accountant probably have expertise as a career driver. Professional managers can be included in this category, especially those with formal training in management sciences. People driven by expertise structure their working lives around a defined discipline. The context and challenge of the work determines their behaviour. Generally, professional or trade qualification are seen as essential entry qualifications. Since most disciplines are continuously developing, the specialist keeps up to date with journals, conferences, and study program and so on. The key concern is mastery.

I-Status: Seeking to be recognised, admired and respected by other through your work. Status is defined as wanting the esteem of others, and to be highly regarded. Status is demonstrated by symbols, formal recognition and acceptance into privileged groups. People with status as a career driver undertake whatever actions are needed in order to enhance their prestige. This includes making personal contacts with influential people, taking responsible assignments and self publicizing. They may seek positions of power and authority, but their desire is for the prestige of the position rather than the exercise of control. Status is not directly related to social class. For example some people being recognised as an authority on art as a person with outstanding fashion sense. The person is motivated by a desire to leave an impression on others and be recognised as someone worthy or special. The key concern is position. Conclusion: This person loves to make money and for making the money he can do anything to a large extent but legally. This person gives the priority to his own beliefs and always ready to help others. The expertise is intellectual. He has a thorough knowledge in a particular field. This person is a kind of specialist who is expert in knowledge or skills. He wants to live in a disciplined working environment. This person wants to get an image or want to be praised by others for his job. He wants to build a reputation. And that he wants to do by committing himself in a specific job what he is looking for.

Suggestions: Since this person has a strong desire to earn money and is expertise in his specific desired field and is disciplined, he can definitely deserves a top level managerial

post. And though he also wants to make contacts with influential people, definitely he can go for relationship management posts. Being an expert they cannot go for other so many fields during the conversation I got to know that he tries to get money by working in so many fields so I would like to suggest that it’s better to put the efforts and time in the expertise field rather than so many fields. Otherwise it will be time consuming for him.

E- Expertise: Seeking to gain a high level of accomplishment in a specialized field. People with expertise as a career driver work hard to gain a depth of competence in limited but specified fields and will strive to maintain their specialist capability. The person is motivated by a desire to leave an impression on others and be recognized as someone worthy or special. The key concern is position.

Conclusion: The person does those things about which he thinks that it is right. He does not like to consult with people. So the decisions he takes, will be on the basis of his own thinking. He is master in the subject advertising also. He believes in learning whether he has to work hard for that. So he lives a disciplined life in which he does not like anybody’s interfere. He wants to be famous in his surroundings hence he can take any step for getting the recognition and respect from the people. He gives preference to his prestige so if any project is given to him, he will definitely try his best to complete that.

Suggestions: The suggestion is that since he likes his own company while taking the decisions, he should understand others also and give them chance to put their view also. Reason being he might be wrong sometimes. He might take any project or work on his hand and might not

be able to do that because they are expertise and expertise quality can be there in one or two field not all hence before handling any work think twice.

This picture is trying to portray the activity of one’s subconscious self during sleep. Here in this picture the person is sleeping (or probably dreaming), his inner self is transmitting healing vibes so as to prepare him for next day. The picture emphasis on the fact that ultimately it’s the inner self and it guides an individual in all phases of life. It depends on how well you listen to and implement your conscience
This CPTP Project is done by Mr. Puli. Srinivas Rao as part of Fellowship. Page 20

Picture 2:
Extrapolating the picture I fell that this picture is an excellent example of generation gap. There a young lady is looking in one particular direction and the older one is looking in n exactly opposite direction but also with an expression showing that ‘I am watching your moves young lady’. But the young lady is absolutely carefree and least bothered about what the older woman has to say.

Picture 3:
This picture is saying probably a lot about non satisfaction and incompleteness in a relationship. There the woman is actually been overwhelmed by unperturbed attitude of his partner who is sleeping carefree without being concerned about what his wife is going through. It also highlights the helplessness of the lady who is not strong enough to speak boldly to her husband. Such one sided relationships unfortunately are doomed to drawn.

Picture 4:
The picture is highlighting on the concept of introvert. The small child, sitting alone thinking deeply, is thinking more intensely than what other children of his age group normally do. He seems to be an avid loner who probably is too occupied with himself who loves his own company. He seems to be an introvert who talks to himself. Such people normally tend to grow up as individuals who are strong thinkers and are very much into themselves.

Picture 5:
This picture shows that the man is behind the bars and thinking about his love. He wants to meet her and at least want to see her who is not with her right now. He seems to be very sorry for her. He did not commit any crime even though he is there and has to miss her loving one. But soon he is going to get bail and then he will be able to meet her.
This CPTP Project is done by Mr. Puli. Srinivas Rao as part of Fellowship. Page 21
Dt : 20-Oct-2011

Picture 6:
This picture is probably depicting the feeling of a very contended and proud dictator who is very happy with the way things are going. There is cunningness in his smile, a feeling of overconfidence and self superiority.

Picture 7:
Man and woman two arms of a balance, this is what the picture shows. The woman is trying to control the impulsive, aggressive nature of the man, who would probably end up messing things, if not stopped at the right time. That’s why it is rightly said, a man is physically strong but a woman is stronger because she is mentally wiser. I may sound biased, but the picture also depicts so.

The Blank Picture:
I can see a very well settled woman, extremely contended, both professionally and personally who works hard, parties harder and has a loving husband who pampers her and is her better half. I can see love, kindness, generosity, fun, excitement and colorful balloons which are flying in the sky, unbounded and free.

The Blank Picture:
Psychogenic Needs: Achievement, affiliation, sentience. Press: Press of friendliness, love. Outcomes: Happy. Themes: Relationship towards life partner with a happy future. Interests and sentiments: wants a happy life with status and the loving one.

Conclusion:
On the basis of above stores I conclude that the person’s vision is to get a well future and having a suitable life partner with her who must be loving and caring. The person has desire to achieve something in her life to run a high status life. Also she is learning oriented and wants to learn the things. She wants to do the work by her own way and then develop herself for being able to achieve something. Mostly outcomes are life partner related in which I saw that she needs to get married with a person of her wish who loves and cares for her a lot. May be there is a problem going on between she and her life partner regarding their relationship or any kind of misunderstanding between them.
This CPTP Project is done by Mr. Puli. Srinivas Rao as part of Fellowship. Page 25
Dt : 20-Oct-2011

Suggestion:
For achieving the desired status and future she has to plan her steps so that a proper planning would lead to a better desired future. And since she wants the things to be happened as she likes, that’s not possible. She should also think of others and their life too. And if she wants a loving and caring life partner then she should be also like him loving and caring then only the married life can be succeeded.

Conclusion:
At the end I would conclude that the person is full of problems. And she might have committed some mistakes in her life which she does not want to repeat and she is regretting. And she may also want to harm those who are the problem for her. Or else somebody might have cheated her that’s why she wants to punish the cheater. Or any kind of misunderstanding is going on in her personal life. If she gets too much of depressed she may commit suicide also. Ultimately she wants a happy married life with no conflicts

Suggestion:
I would like to suggest that if she has done any kind of mistake, try to forget that and live the life well. Because just wasting in time in regretting or thinking about only past failures will make her in depression which may lead to suicide or any mental disorder. And start thinking positively.

Aptitude & Ability Tests - An Introduction
This CPTP Project is done by Mr. Puli. Srinivas Rao as part of Fellowship. Page 40
Dt : 20-Oct-2011

Aptitude and ability tests are designed to assess the logical reasoning or thinking performance. They consist of multiple choice questions and are administered under exam conditions. They are strictly timed and a typical test might allow 30 minutes for 30 or so questions. The test result will be compared to that of a control group so that judgments can be made about the person’s abilities who have taken the test. Aptitude & Ability Test

The test can be administered either on paper or online. The advantages of online testing include immediate availability of results and the fact that the test can be taken from anywhere. This makes online testing particularly suitable for initial screening as it is obviously very cost-effective.

Aptitude and ability tests can be classified as speed tests or power tests. In speed tests the questions are relatively straightforward and the test is concerned with how many questions you can answer correctly in the allotted time. Speed tests tend to be used in selection at the administrative and clerical level. A power test on the other hand will present a smaller number of more complex questions. Power tests tend to be used more at the professional or managerial level.

There are at least 5000+ aptitude and ability tests available in the market. Some of them contain only one type of question (for example, verbal ability, numeric reasoning ability etc) while others are made up of different types of questions.

This CPTP Project is done by Mr. Puli. Srinivas Rao as part of Fellowship. Page 41

Dt : 20-Oct-2011

The different Types of Tests and questions which can be classified as: ? Verbal Ability - Includes spelling, grammar, and ability to understand analogies and follow detailed written instructions. These questions appear in most general aptitude tests because employers usually want to know how well you can communicate. ? Numeric Ability - Includes basic arithmetic, number sequences and simple mathematics. In management level tests you will often be presented with charts and graphs that need to be interpreted. These questions appear in most general aptitude tests because employers usually want some indication of your ability to use numbers even if this is not a major part of the job. ? Abstract Reasoning - Measures your ability to identify the underlying logic of a pattern and then determine the solution. Because abstract reasoning ability is believed to be the best indicator of fluid intelligence and your ability to learn new things quickly these questions appear in most general aptitude tests. ? Spatial Ability - Measures your ability to manipulate shapes in two dimensions or to visualize threedimensional objects presented as two-dimensional pictures. These questions not usually found in general aptitude tests unless the job specifically requires good spatial skills. ? Mechanical Reasoning - Designed to assess your knowledge of physical and mechanical principles. Mechanical reasoning questions are used to select for a wide range of jobs including the military (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery), police forces, fire services, as well as many craft, technical and engineering occupations. ? Fault Diagnosis - These tests are used to select technical personnel who need to be able to find and repair faults in electronic and mechanical systems. As modern equipment of all types becomes more dependent on electronic control systems (and arguably more complex) the ability to approach problems logically in order to find the cause of the fault is increasingly important. ? ? Data Checking - Measure how quickly and accurately errors can be detected in data and are used to select candidates for clerical and data input jobs. Work Sample – Involves a sample of the work that you will be expected do. These types of test can be very broad ranging. They may involve exercises using a word processor or spreadsheet if the job is administrative or they may include giving a presentation or in-tray exercises if the job is management or supervisory level.

The battery of Aptitude & Abilities tests can be classified and sub-divided into the following groups as shown in Table 23.0 :

CONCLUSION

After completing my project of psychometric assessment, I got a clear vision that how to do psychometric assessment and how to analyze the test results. It gave me an opportunity to observe the various aspects about human mind and behavior. After getting the training from Ms. Nanditha Sankar made me understood about various things and happenings of the human mind.

Here I also want to state that the project psychometric assessment helped me out in understanding the various minds and their problems. This project gave me the methods to test and analyze the human mind and behavior.

This psychometric project not only helps the person to utilize his knowledge and experience properly in learn field realities but also provides a chance to do the assessment of the candidates and to find out their need, potential and other personal things which is useful for themselves as well.

THANK YOU
