Amy's Kitchen is a privately held corporation which began operation in 1987, with the purpose of making healthy, organic, and easy-to-prepare frozen food. Owned and run by Andy and Rachel Berliner, Amy's Kitchen took its name from their then-newborn daughter. The company employs over 1,500 people and operates processing plants located in Santa Rosa, California and White City, Oregon. New processing plants are being built in Corby, England, and Greenville, South Carolina. The corporate headquarters is now located in Petaluma, California.
Both proprietors had been long involved in the organic food business; Rachel's family had been growing and advocating organic vegetables and fruits since the 1950s, while Andy was formerly the president and majority shareholder of the Magic Mountain Herb Tea company. Because Amy's Kitchen is a private entity, reports of its annual earnings are not public knowledge.

Sonoma Burger
Our amazing new Sonoma Burger is a flavorful combination of organic quinoa, walnuts, mushrooms, veggies and spices. Quinoa is a great source of all 9 essential amino acids that make up a complete protein. Plus our new burger is gluten, dairy and soy free. Available in stores beginning January 2011.

Gluten Free Burritos
Our chefs went on a years-long mission to create a gluten free burrito as fantastic as our original. Their goal has finally been achieved! We blend organic, gluten free flours to create our special, handcrafted tortillas. Everyone here agrees that the organic vegetables, beans, rice and cheese find a flavorful, complementary home in this crepe-like tortilla. We can’t stop eating them.

Hearty Rustic Italian Vegetable Soup
Our chef’s brother runs an international cooking school near Tours, France. When we asked him for recipes for our new Hearty Soup line, he sent us – among others – one for this great tasting Rustic Italian Vegetable soup. This soup, made with protein-rich organic Ceci beans (also known as garbanzos or chickpeas), is so packed with organic vegetables, brown rice, mushrooms and traditional Italian herbs that it should satisfy the heartiest of eaters.
Gluten free/dairy free/no cholesterol.
Hearty French Country Vegetable Soup
Here is a welcome addition to Amy’s Hearty Soup line. It’s based on another tasty recipe generously sent by our chef’s brother; organic long grain red rice is slowly simmered with organic vegetables and traditional French herbs to create an unusually flavored yet satisfyingly robust meal in the French country tradition.
Gluten free/dairy free/no cholesterol.
Golden Lentil Soup
Amy’s family often visits a delightful Himalayan restaurant where customers are served a bowl of lentil soup to eat, free of charge, while waiting for their meals to arrive. We were so taken by the flavor of this delicious soup that we asked for the recipe. The owner gave us the recipe and came to the Amy’s plant to show us how to make it. Organic red lentils and yellow split peas are gently cooked with organic vegetables and traditional spices to create Amy’s mildly spiced Golden Lentil soup for you to enjoy.

hile the majority of Amy's food products are aimed at vegetarians and vegans, a small but determined focus is also given to people on kosher diets, as well as those who are unable to tolerate ingredients such as wheat gluten, soy, lactose, and maize derivatives. While most of Amy's wares are frozen, some are not, such as their line of pasta sauces and canned soups. Frozen or not, however, all their products are marketed to people with specialized diets and anyone who considers themselves health-conscious. The organic compound of their product line ranges from 70-95%. None of their products include actual animal meat (i.e., chicken or beef), though some contain animal-derived elements (such as dairy and honey). They do not, however, use eggs in any of their products.
Because most of their products qualify as frozen food, they compete directly with similar companies, such as Stouffers, Uncle Ben's, Lean Cuisine, and Healthy Choice. Most mainstream supermarkets in the USA sell Amy's products right alongside the others, though some sequester them into "organic food" sections along with the likes of less traditional frozen fare.
