Building new capacity, expanding platforms and venturing into new markets and new fuel sources
AES's Business Development group focuses on large-scale projects and pursues strategic opportunities in power generation and distribution. Across AES, we have leveraged our proven capabilities in project management, construction and financing to expand our portfolio of businesses. At the local level, our people surface opportunities to expand the value we deliver.
AES's rise to global prominence has been powered in large part by our skills at financing, constructing and efficiently operating generation facilities that energize communities all around the world.
AES operates 132 power generation facilities worldwide. And across these facilities, we innovate—helping to pioneer cleaner technologies for coal-fired facilities and revitalizing plants through biomass conversions.
Our power plants generate electricity from diverse fuel sources: coal, diesel, hydropower, gas, oil, and biomass. Having expertise in such a wide variety of fuel sources has enabled us to identify what each particular market can best support. And as a result, we help increase generation capacity and reliability, as well as lower costs. Our power plants sell electricity to utilities, wholesalers and commercial buyers through both long-term contracts and in competitive markets.
