Prerana 2012 Post Event Coverage

The annual management fest of National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Prerana -2012 a five day symposium kicked off on 16th October.

Lakshya Business Visionary Awards in which, over the years NITIE has acknowledged and saluted the most eminent business personalities who have transformed their vision into reality were awarded this year to Mr. Deep C Anand - Chairman, Anand Automotive Ltd. and Mr. Jaiprakash Gaur, Founder, Jaypee Group for their contribution to the industry as well as to India's growth.

Prerana Business Meet, the flagship event of the fest, held on the second day, had members of top management from various corporate houses - Mr. Harsh Mariwala (CEO, Marico), Mr. B.Vidyanathan (MD, Future Capital), Mr. S Hazara (MD, Shipping Corporation of India), and Mr. Anshoo Gaur (Head, Amdocs India). The topic of discussion was "Reviving the Indian Economy: Key Focus Areas to Sustain the Indian Growth Story".

The meet started with the welcoming of speakers by the Dr. Amitabha De, Director, NITIE with an inspiring speech. All the panel members shared deep insight into one of the most crucial topics faced by our nation. The meet ended with Prof. Ashok K Pundir, Dean Students Affairs and Placement, delivering the vote of thanks and presenting the dignitaries with mementos. All in all, the audience left the congregation truly spellbound.

Among others competitions was Tactix, a Supply Chain Management competition consisting of quiz and online simulation rounds was won by students of NITIE followed by the Team of IIM Indore. The team of NMIMS emerged victors in 'Beat the Street', a Finance case study competition on M&As and the runners up were the students of NITIE. Equinox, a competition on Indian Equity Markets was won by team of ISB followed by the team of IMT Ghaziabad. The Marketing case study event, Launchpad involved strategizing ideas for BPCL's entry into service vertical, and was won by team from NITIE. In the Consulting case study competition, Checkmate, the students of VGSOM(IIT Kharagpur) emerged as winners and the team of NITIE was runner-up. Enflammer, an entrepreneurship competition, was won by NITIE in business plan category and IMI in running enterprise category.

The Last Samurai, a flagship event of Prerana, was a three day long event in which the Managers-to-be were exposed to the stark reality of corporate life. Showcasing their business acumen and agile thinking in each of the domains, the participants from best b-schools such as IIM-B, FMS, SP Jain & NITIE were subjected to chasing crazy deadlines and yet delivering excellence. The true grit of a good manager to outwit competitors by making all the right moves armed with foresight and vision was tested in this 3-day long event.

PIXL, an online photography contest based on the theme "Success through Synergy" in which the college IMI won, had entries which were judged based on their popularity on Facebook and through the evaluation by professional photographers.

Reach By Research, put the research and analysis skills of the participants to test and rewarded them handsomely. The bar was set very high for this event as there were 18 PPIs (Pre-Placement Interviews) on offer from Schlumberger and prize money of INR 1.1 Lakh was at stake. The winners were students from SP Jain followed by NITIE. The Summer Project Contest, a unique event where participants got an opportunity to showcase and benchmark their two-month corporate internships against each other under the main domains of Finance, Marketing, HR, SCM & Consulting. NITIE bagged top honours in SCM module, NMIMS (Hyderabad) in Finance module, IIM Lucknow in Marketing module, NITIE in Consulting module and Welingker in HR module

"Vivaad" A War of Words tested the debating skills of the participants and their ability to think on their feet. The event had three innovative rounds involving impromptu speeches, sales pitches, and a parliamentary style debate. The event was judged by Mr. Radhakrishnan Srinivasan, Senior Host, Neo Sports and Mr. Rajas Kelkar, former NDTV Profit veteran. The final round saw teams from TAPMI and NITIE fighting it out with the team from NITIE eventually emerging as the winner.

"EnVision" an exclusive panel discussion stressed on Sustainability, provided a unique platform for corporate delegates and B School students to come together to discuss the vital role of Corporate Sustainability in today's business scenario. This year, the panel discussed - "Integrating EHS and Sustainability into a Business Model". The panel included dignitaries such as Mr. Sudeep Roy, GM, EHS, Philips and Mr. Parvastu Rambabu, CEO, General Carbon.

Biz-Talk, a panel discussion brought in people from the industry, who are the forces behind the dynamic business environment. This year's panel included - Mr. Bala Krishnan (VP Sales, EMC), Mr. Sunzay Passari (Ex EVP & Global Head - Essar Telecom & founder, iPlatini), Mr. Abhijeet Joshi (Pathways Operations Manager, Amazon), Mr. Biswajit Mohapatra (Global Integrated Delivery Leader, IBM India), and discussion was moderated by Mr. Srikanth(Executive Editor, InformationWeek). The topic for deliberation this year was,'How are companies coping with this rapid shift in IT trends?'. The panelists brought with them a plethora of ideas and a sound mix of eclectic opinions formed over years of experience in various domains.

Cita De La Prerana provided a platform for the students to have an informal chat with Mr. Rajat Kapur(actor and director) who narrated his life story and the struggles he had to (and still has to) face to pursue his passion - making sensible movies. He answered each and every question asked by his fans in the audience with keen interest and just stole the hearts of everyone in the audience. The event was marked by a huge turnout of about 700 students of NITIE and other colleges.

Decibel - The most eagerly awaited event of Prerana, Decibelz 2012 has kept up its legacy by having brought "Indus Creed" band to the lawns of NITIE. The event turned out to be bigger, better and louder as the Trailblazers of contemporary Indian rock performed their greatest hits in front of its die-hard fans. Decibelz 2012 was powered by MTV which got VJ Jose to the campus to promote "Indus Creed" for the upcoming MTV Unplugged Season 2 and feature NITIE in MTV Campus Diaries.
