Practical or class room education ?????

A judicious mix of both. Practical education is and always be a supplement to the theoritical knowledge and in no way can substitute the theoritical training. In short, Practical training facilitates the better understanding of the concepts learned in theoritical training.

Practical Education makes sense for working professionals, I am doing an MBA from LIBA, Chennai, and have been working for the past 10 years. Understanding concepts is much easier with the work experience, but even here, we do take a lot from the classroom sessions we have. A mix of both would be ideal.

More than anything i think we have to get out of the writing exams mode, embrace technology and come up with a better solution to handwritten exams. Because I believe the way we study will change with the way we would do our exams.

It should be a mixture of both ,
Theory First and then comes the Application.
Theory is little , but applications are vast.
Hence its possible to study theory in class and applications in real life.

well.. of course thr has to more of practical education.....coz otherise noone's gonna sit thr n apply wht they've learnt

According to me..thr as to be a balance between the two depending upon the subjects..
some subjects lik Taxation, A/c, Satistics .... cannot be learned practically while sm subjects lik marketi OB required the field wrk....
hence the proper blend is to be found out

Hey...I totally agree to this..deres never an option between white nd black...life lives in the grey areas....practicality has its own importance..but to understand fundamentals, theoritical knowledge is imperative...

thr many thnk wich we study in the classroon in never actually appicable practically. so i thnk thr shd be a proper balance between both

i think there should be a mixture of both tooooooooo ...itshould start wid a classroom session followed by a practical session ,showing how to implement the things u leant in classroom practically & develop a learning derived from mistakes.

class room lec are very boring but then the are imp and crucial so that they can b applied in practical life

one should always with full knowledge on practical feild which he has learned in class room

Certain topics must be first covered under theory to know about the fundamentals. Then, students must be exposed to case studies and practical problems in industries. Yes, there has to be a system in which credits are given to both theory and practicals

Hi everyone,

I newly joined the forum. This is actually my first post. I support the need for both practical and classroom learning.

practical education is important for understanding and developing industry insights sitting in your classroom. Ideally, the firswt half of the sessions should be theoretical and extensive projects giving practical insights should follow.

i think both is reqkuired. both plays a vital role.. in class room we r getting theoritical knowledge and to implement those is the way of technique required to tap the market..

Hi everyone,

Most of the replies suggest to have a blend of both theoritical and practical session, I would like to hear on how the blend should be, to my knowledge the blend should be like if the theoritical classes are held for 3 months a 2 months field work or assigning of a team to particular Industry on the specific subject to have the practical and realtime knowledge on that would be good. If the school is going for a semester system, if its a annual system, the belnd would be much better with more scope for the student to do the practical data. 5 month Theory and a 4 month Practical. This requires much of the industry University collaberation, for which either the students must form into teams approach Industries or the management should plan and coordinate with the Industries.

I think the perfect blend btw classroom and practical training can be compared to the sport of swimming. In swimming the theoritical part is explained by the instructor, but a person can only learn swimming in water which is the blending point.
Similarly a classroom training is required to build the theoritcal framework, platform and concepts.A labourer cannot run a machine(for eg. manufacturing of spare parts of a car) if he doesnt know the working behind it.).A practical approach should be given immediately after the training.

I agree some subjects can be learnt only theoritically but subjects which require practical approach should be taught practically.
Having said that, there have been exceptions like Dhirubhai Ambani who without the education platform built a huge business empire. But that was coz of lack of oppurtunity. But in todays competitve world education in the form of classroom as well as practical training is available for everyone.

MBA institutes put more emphasize on case study approach(IIM Bangalore),presentations,Report activites,Group activites,Visual learning,Role Play, etc. All these come under the practical approach of teaching subjects.

In India, more emphasize is given to classroom education.Coz of exam pressure and competition, students study the subject from exam point of view n do not learn the subject. On the contrary in US,Europe,Australia, etc. the education system is far more practical oriented. That is the reason y students go abroad to pursue further education. Also coz the Indians are good at rote learning and slogging, back office work is outsourced to our country and much of the front end activity is done by the other countries.
So institutes, schools, colleges in India shd change the system of teaching(starting from the primary level). This is will give better returns in future after 20 years.

So to conclude, a perfect blend shd be thr btw both the forms of training.

I feel practical knowledge holds more importance as it teaches you things in the real environment unlike being in the class room.
It surely depends on the nature of subject but also depends on the professor. In practical knowledge you are not dependent on any professor.
