  • Advertising is direct endorsement whereas, PR is passive.
  • Advertising is attention seeker.
  • Effective PR can be cost effective and can help to generate more sales
  • or service.
  • Advertising list out features.
  • Whereas, PR explains Pros side of a plan.
So after having a glance at the above points what do u people think?
 
Advertisements make sales happen, public relations facilitate it.

Public Relations insertions passively endorse the company and help in brand building or help in saving the brand when in crisis ( unhealthy water - Bisleri case ) but seldom endorse the product itself.
 
PR and Advertising many times go hand in hand. Public Relation is the one who does flower arrangement and tries to hide the wilted petals behind the blossoms. For example a bollywood star PR professional will always try to display the best qualities of a star and the bad one's would be hidden.

Advertising tries to attract the consumer just by showing what the consumer wants to know and other things are hidden.
 
Advertising:
Since you pay for the space, you can run your ads over and over for as long as your budget allows. An ad generally has a longer shelf life than one press release.
Public Relations:
You only submit a press release about a new product once. You only submit a press release about a news conference once. The PR exposure you receive is only circulated once. An editor won't publish your same press release three or four times in their magazine.
