Poverty is one of the main issues, attracting the attention of sociologists and economists. It indicates a condition in which a person fails to maintain a living standard adequate for a comfortable lifestyle.

Poverty in India is widespread with the nation estimated to have a third of the world's poor.Since early years, the Indian government and non-governmental organizations have initiated several programs to alleviate poverty and they are still trying

Some of the basic reasons poverty in India are:

Unequal distribution of income.
High population growth.
Illiteracy.
Large families.
Caste system.

the schemes, policies and programmesd started by the Government are good enough to eradicate poverty, but the only problem is effective implementation of these policies , If this done properly, We can really reduce that 26% figure to 0%
 
In order to reduce poverty we should accelerate our economy growth. Its main benefits are more employment possibilities, greater productivity and better earnings. Another important measure is to improve the agricultural growth for the reduction of poverty.
