Portfolio Analysis

Hi Mods and Users,

I went through nearly all the threads but couldn;t find any giving information on portfolio analysis.

I am an MBA student (Finance) and have to finish a project in my internship within 2 weeks. The topic given to me is Financial Portfolio Analysis of the SBUs

If anyone knows anything about it, has the structure for analysis, or has a reference report or project, please let everyone know.

It's related to finance...
it's generaly mistaken as portfolio management of investments but what my project is "financial analysis of the businesses of a conglomerate"
i've been given their balance sheets and P&L statements...
what i've done so far is calculated a few ratio' and i dont know how to go about after this.
These are the ratio's:
Gross Profit Margin
Operating Profit Margin
Net Profit Margin
Inventory Turnover Ratio
Return on Assets
Return on Capital Employed
Return on Equity Capital
Earning Per Share
Current Ratio
Quick Ratio
Net Working Capital Ratio
Debt Equity Ratio
Debt Service Coverage Ratio
Capital Gearing Ratio
Interest Cover
Asset Turnover Ratio
Earning Per Share
Book Value Per Share
 
Hey I am doing a project on a similar topic... Though I haven't started yet. Till now my practical work consisted of making Investment schedules, finding dividend... Can anyone help me with the format of the same

Hey will like to read your Proceed, just waiting till I make 10 posts. I am a new joinee. I don't have the relevent theoritical material on how to go about in the project. Other than that I have the practical data of Tata powers. I am working in their treasury department.
 
sarika & shubam Im doin my summer internship on POrtfolio Management Services.... Im about to complete my project.... u both have to specify clearly wats ur topic & wat u want.....
 
Im doin my project on PMS @ Asit C mehta... its related with Equity portfolio.... My company is a share broking firm.... hope i will b able to help u guyz
 
Actually My project is a little different. The term portfolio management has been standardized by our management elders to cover investment portfolio. Individually portfolio has a very different meaning summing up to "Group".
So what my project basically is the analysis of the business portfolio of a conglomerate. I.E. the analysis of various businesses the conglomerate is involved in like textiles, garments, VFY etc... and has very little to do with equity.
What it should be (by my idea) is an analysis of the financial ratio's and strategies of each business and comparison with industry and also and intra-company comparison to decide the most profitable and viable businesses...
All i'm looking for now is:
the financial ratio''s i should use (which ones),
apart from financial ratios what else should i consider.

wat u can do is go to capital line... in that go to textile industry... you will get all the latest ratios & detais regardin Rivals as well as industry ratios... do u want textile industry.... i have ratio analysis of around 1000 textile companies in india...
Key Ratio will be Debtos turnover, creditors turnover, inventory, Fix Asset to Current Asset, sales to CA... now u specify wat exactly u want

Lol! i know capitaline has all that dude...
what you should know is capitaline is a network based application and you cannot access it from any computer. And when you're sitting 500 KMS away from your college accessing becomes a little problem and you come to such forums to get your answers.
Regarding what i want "SPECIFICALLY" is clearly comprehendable in the posts above! It'll just take a few minutes of working out the mind to uderstand...
The ratio's i'm already using are mentiones there too...

inventory mgmt by stock turnover

profitability by net profit ratio, ROE & ROCE

Most imp. Price earning raio...very imp.
