Politicians pursuing outside interests

Elected representatives should be working for the people and take only their interests into account. Politicians who also run their own companies, hold directorships or manage extensive share portfolios will stand to gain or lost substantially from individual pieces of legislation, which is likely to affect their vote and so distort the political process.

The uncertainty of employment in politics is well known to every aspiring politician, although in many countries the criticism is rather that incumbency carries a huge advantage in any election. Rather than encouraging elected representatives to pander to interest groups in search of jobs to provide future security, it would be better to guarantee retired and defeated politicians a decent pension, or funding to update their professional skills.

Well this is a serious issue because a ploitician who is elected by people should give his 100% to people only and not to other outside activity.

Each and every politicians genuinity is at stake now a days. The situation has become so worse that no one can be trusted.... Every politician be it from any political party is uder one or the other Scam. and now its time for us the youth of India to react.

A member of parliament is exclusively answerable to the people and hence it would not be in the interest of the society to have politicians who hold positions in companies and boards. It would also affect their decision.
