Police pellets have caused a huge damage to Hamid Nazir Bhat, 16, Kashmir boy and changing his fate towards dark, As usual he was going for tuition and became the victim of police pellets, now lying on a hospital bed and losing his right eye. Nearly 100 of pellets hitting his body leaving him unconscious and when he woke up found himself critical with swollen face, dark eyelids at hospital in Srinagar. His family has only one question: Will he be able to see again?

Pellets have created a huge damage to his right eye and now his left eye has the only hope, Waseem Rashid, an ophthalmologist at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Bemina, told The Hindu. “He had a corneal-limbal tear in the right eye, and we operated on it on Saturday. But he has no vision in it, and it seems he will not able to see with that eye again,” the doctor said. The state police have been firing pellets randomly on the protestors.

Police stated that Hamid, was protesting on the death anniversary of Mirwaiz molvi Farooq but his parents have a different story to tell, his parents told that hamid, was not taking part in any protest, as usual he was just on his way to attend tuition class. It is a growing concern because this kind of incidents is increasing rapidly and causing myriads of problem for the people of Srinagar and these kinds of attacks do no kill but destroys the life forever. “And unfortunately, around 70 per cent of them lose their sight in one eye, and at times in both,” Sheikh Sajad, a senior ophthalmologist in Srinagar, told The Hindu. “While they haven’t been killed, their lives are ruined forever.”

“It does not show us in a good light. We have told the police again that they should curb the use of pellet guns,” Mr. Akhtar said. “But they have their own concerns, and we cannot really force them to stop using the pellets. We hope it will be curbed soon.” said Education Minister Naeem Akhtar. But, will this concern would ease the pain? The boy is in pain fighting, in these critical conditions.
