plagiarism

It is a good practice really so as to make sure that people do not just grab stuff off some websites or books. A coursework or a dissertation has to be your own work really. You can take ideas from websites or books but you can't just copy that stuff straightaway. Agreed that more than one person can think in a similar way, however, the report also shows where the stuff has been copied from. As long is it is not too much amount of similarity from a single source it is fine, me thinks.

Also, it gives the examiner an idea about the amount of research one has carried out. So, I personally believe that it is a good practice.

(note the 'Miss Teen US 2007 - Miss South Carolina' phrase here! - I personally believe..)

P.S. - I really don't know why I have added that Miss South Carolina phrase .. I wrote it instinctively, but then I realised that it is the phrase popularized by Miss South Carolina in the Miss Teen US 2007 contest.

ofcourse, there is no second thought... Plagiarism should be banned as it spoils innovative thinking process & hurts the one who has really done hardwork in developing the concepts, etc.

In fact, it is practised to foster innovative thinking process!

Not to me either - but yes, assignments and projects are meant to test the ability of the person doing them and not how good he is at using Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V on his keyboard. Ban the practice!

yes it should be banned...there is no as such mechanism to ban it however attempts shud be made to control plagarism.

Stealing someone original ideas/writings and stating it as yours is not fair.

this is more applicable for academicians, who terms other students efforts as his own. they should be concious before doing this.
 
Plagiarism has rules in India which are the simplest to break . In any sentence if 1 out of every 10 words is changed the passage is considered original . Not very difficult to comply with so this seems like a far dream
 
The word plagiarism comes from a Latin word for kidnapping. You know that kidnapping is stealing a person. Well, plagiarism is stealing a person's ideas or writing.

Plagiarism is a form of cheating, but it's a little complicated so a kid might do it without understanding that it's wrong.

Plagiarism Is Lazy
Though plagiarism can be accidental, it's sometimes done on purpose and that's just being lazy. By copying whole paragraphs from different places, a kid doesn't have to spend the time thinking about the subject, gathering his or her own thoughts about it, and then putting it into original words. Cut, paste, and you're done.
