Applied Materials, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMAT, SEHK: 4336) is a capital equipment producer serving the semiconductor, TFT LCD display, Glass, WEB and solar (crystalline and thin film) manufacturing industries.

The company is headquartered in Santa Clara, California in the Silicon Valley. Founded in 1967 by Michael A. McNeilly and others, Applied Materials went public in 1972.

In 1993, the Applied Materials' Precision 5000 was inducted into the Smithsonian Institution's permanent collection of Information Age technology.[3]

Applied Materials creates and commercializes nanomanufacturing technology used in the production of semiconductor (integrated circuit) chips for electronic gear, flat panel displays for computers and television, glass coatings for homes and buildings, web (flexible substrate) coatings for industry and photovoltaic solar cells and modules using both thin film and crystalline (aka wafer or bulk) photovoltaic technology.

Applied Materials is also participating in the lighting industry through the European OPAL 2008 (Organic Phosphorescent lights for Applications in the Lighting market 2008) Program with the aim to develop a production technology for organic light-emitting diodes.

The acquisation of one of its rivals Semitool Inc. was completed in December 2009.

Applied is organized into four major business sectors: Silicon Systems Group, Display, Energy and Environmental Solutions (EES) and Service.




Facilities Management (FMC) was established in 1999 by Frank McCartney, Colin Botting and Martin Joyce, all of whom have worked together for more than 25 years, running the largest portfolio of sports and social events catering in Europe. Since its formation, FMC has developed into a leading specialist in the sports stadia and event market, and is now the bespoke catering arm of the Sports and Leisure Division of Compass Group. The Compass Group is the biggest catering company is the world. FMC is outsourced to look after the food and beverage requirements of Chelsea Football Club on home match days and for non-match day functions. The yearly turnover for match days and non-match days is around £11 million.

I work as one of the two recruitment managers in the company, working alongside with assistants. Our recruitment department staffs all the non-match day functions and over 700 staff on home match days. My role in the recruitment depart at FMC is to staff all the retail units on site. The retail units consist of 23 bars and 31 food units with staffing levels of 310 staff members for every match. The staff that we recruit are seasonal workers, employed on a casual basis. Current and newly recruited staff are inducted, trained and sign a new contract at the start of each season.




1. As a recruitment manager, I am responsible for the planning and implementing of the division’s recruitment strategy geared towards process improvement, cost control and adherence to laws and regulations in HRM.

2. As a recruitment manager, I source, screen, interview and staff the retail units on site.

3. As a recruitment manager, I am responsible for managing recruitment strategies and recruitment methods.

4. As a recruitment manager, I coordinate with hiring personnel in order to create recruitment plans. I contribute in the needs assessment process and I make sure that the company has an adequate pool of talents.

5. As a recruitment manager, I analyze and rewrite job descriptions.

6. As a recruitment manager, I coordinate with hiring personnel to determine most qualified applicants. I am responsible in making interview schedules and negotiating the offers of employment.

7. As a recruitment manager, I make sure that the applicants have a clear idea of the jobs and that they are well-informed on recruitment and employment policies of the organization.

8. As a recruitment manager, I coordinate with human resources and marketing personnel in creating and designing recruiting materials such as brochures and newspaper advertisements.
