To avoid the inadequacy of airline services and the overbooked flights, the British Airways have expanded their passenger capacities and have also equipped themselves with other ancillary facilities. For faster baggage handling, the no-wait baggage handling system has been introduced. Thus, the Heathrow airport is one of the busiest in the world, handling thousands of travelers every minute. For the new Hotels in London UK government now offers scores of discounts so that these hotels will be able to attract more visitors by passing on these discounts to passengers that make a brief stopover during their onward journey.

Speedy confirmation of a hotel booking is essential for ensuring rapid growth in tourism traffic. The introduction of a central reservation agency has helped to make a remarkable improvement. The problem involved in getting a booking confirmed at a faster pace would be solved if all the booking centers in the country are linked by telex. This would help the airline offices to keep an up-to-date chart of the bookings and reservations.

The ideal solution however, would be the introduction of the computerized system which would help the airline offices to make confirmed reservation within 30 seconds of a request from a prospective traveler. Such a system is already in use in many of the destinations in the developed world. In fact, a passenger in the USA may go to a shopping center and insert a plastic credit card into a machine, press a button to see if a seat is available, push another button and have a ticked in his hands.

Those who come to the US by air mostly prefer to travel within the country by the domestic carrier. In the context of its new market drive, the British Airways should be geared to meet the demands of the new strategy. As part of its effort to market tourism, the British Airways have already announced concessional dollar fares for large groups visiting other places for specific purposes. “Travel when you please” scheme, “Discovering the UK” and “Discount to Children” are some of the popular schemes. The British Airways has also made arrangements for quick confirmation of bookings with the computerized systems. The increasing volume of advance booking points to the popularity of the package tour plans. Tour operators that bring in 15 or more visitors get a travel anywhere ticket free. All these initiatives are steps in the right direction to boost tourism in the UK.
