Online High School

Mix a teenager with a 'go at your own pace" option, then throw in parents who do not take responsible roles in monitoring and motivating the kid(s), and what do you get?? From what I've seen, you get 19 year olds who STILL haven't finished high school! Plus you get an online-educational company making boatloads of profits off the course fees for many more semesters than truly necessary. Today there are many online high schools. However, many online students are not passing standardized tests. Are these types of schools really effective in educating adolescents?

I do not believe that online high schools are very effective. Although, the idea of an online high school is great idea, the fact is that many of them are operated by people who do not have the proper credentials to run a school. Most of the administrators and teachers do not know how to teach online and have little or no training; and as a result, the students do not learn the information they need to know for standardized tests and for overall success. Most online schools in the USA are very poorly operated and many students do not pass classes or tests. If they could get qualified staff, the idea of an online high school would be really good. Sadly, many online schools are in the business for profit and educating the students comes second to making money. Unqualified people focusing on a high school for profit is why so many students fail in online high schools. So, I would say that is why they are so ineffective at educating students.

Nothing is as effective as being with a group of other students under the direction of a good lecturer but some potential students don't have the access to the traditional environment of study. One example of distance learning that has worked is the Open University were millions have benefited from being able to study from home.

Since all classes are online, students will not have to attend classes. For those who work full-time, this will save time, and make scheduling events in their lives much easier. Students will also not have to find parking spaces, leave work early to go to class, or miss family time.
Lectures and other materials are sent to the student who will then read them and prepare to take quizzes and complete assignments. Students will never have to visit a classroom.

Studying in online schools is the simple and best way in today's technology. We can attend the classes regardless of the location. Also, many online colleges are conducting discussion forums which enables students to learn from real-life work that books can't teach.
